Swans chat 2005 Premiership 20-year anniversary celebrations

    Honouring our 2005 premiership team

I wish the club had provided up with a longer montage of moments from the half-time milling by our 2005 premiership heroes. It was, after all, the only memorable thing about Saturday night.

Given the brevity of the montage, it's not easy to determine exactly who was there and who wasn't. I haven't seen Mathews in any of the footage. We know he was at the SCG that night but maybe he was too busy doing his day job. That doesn't seem to have been a priority for Buchanan, mind you. Maybe the reasoning was that they didn't envisage Buchanan's forward line being called upon much in the second half, while Mathews's backline needed a lot of organisation.

I think the guy who looks pretty old is probably Jason Ball but it could be Darren Jolly. The height gives him away as one of these two. I think the other must have been absent.

I also haven't spotted Jared Crouch in any of the footage. Did anyone spot him out there?

It was Jason Ball. Didn't spot Darren Jolly, Jared Crouch or Nick Davis (was probably at work). Also you may be getting Schneider and Buchanan confused? I know I used to back in the day sometimes haha

I thought I saw both Buchanan and Schneider out there on the night. Even though they walked right past the O'Reilly stand, it was hard to pick some of them out. But looking at the footage, maybe you're right. I can't see Buchanan on there. It would make more sense for Buchanan not to be there, given Mathews wasn't.

Does Davis still hold a match day role with the club? I know he's done bits and pieces with the academy and with the women's team, and a little bit of coaching here and there. Plus at one point he was our runner but I don't think he is now. Similarly with Kirk. He's at the club but with a match day job to do? I guess the answer for both must be yes since they live in Sydney and you'd think they'd have been part of the half-time celebrations had they been available.

I spent ages looking for Malceski and wondering why he wasn't there, especially after I saw "McVeigh" milling amongst the other players. But then I remembered that neither actually played in the 2005 GF, and the player I had taken to be McVeigh was actually Luke Ablett.

On the group shot that you get when you click on the link but before you hit play, it's clear that the tall, old-looking bloke is Jason Ball. But there's another bloke who looks older than the rest, standing at the back towards the right hand side (as we look at the picture), between ROK and Bevo. Can anyone identify who that is?

The large bald gentleman - I've been trying to figure that out also!

Here's the AFL Tables 2005 GF page with the team lists.

In the group shot I think I can identify: Dempster, Ball, Barry, J. Bolton, Ablett, Roos, O'Loughlin, Roberts-Thomson, O'Keefe, Bevan, Goodes, Williams, Fosdike, Kennelly, Schneider, Hall, C. Bolton.

I didn't see Crouch (who hasn't changed too much). Nor Buchanan, Davis, Mathews, Kirk or Jolly. The mystery gent is clearly not one of those six.

The emergencies were Nick Malceski, Andrew Schauble and Jared Moore. Pretty sure mystery gent is not the first two of those. So could he be Moore? Either that or not a former player.

Ryan O'Keefe was doing the ABC Radio commentary of the game and I think he said that the only one who didn't make it was Jared Crouch.

I’d like to have seen Jared Crouch out there bc he was v generous with our family at the post match celebrations in 2005 for photos etc

The most important presence for his and for all our (mental) health and well being was of course Adam. So I sincerely hope this is a catalyst to find his way back to the people who love and admire him .

Could it be Assistant Coach, Peter Jonas? Couldn't find a contemporary photo, but based on photos from his playing days, it could be?

ROK and Craig Bolton looked like they could still run around.

Loved Bolton. Criminally underrated. I remember after he retired Nick Reiwoldt was being interviewed and asked to nominate his toughest opponent. Quick as a flash said Bolton by a mile.
