Team List Team Selection: Round 16 v Western Bulldogs

Whilst i'm loathed not to make any unforced changes to a winning side, for team balance reasons i'm inclined to replace a tall with a small for the SCG. Especially being a night game against the pacy dogs.

For this reason, I think Florent deserves a recall as Sub after his recent VFL performances (Bice plays full game as he was Sub last week). Either Mclean or Francis to make way, which at this stage i'm favouring retaining Mclean for his 2nd ruck role but not fussed if Francis is preferred instead, due to his better mobility.

Good to have Lloyd and Cleary pressing their claims should their good VFL form continue. I'm looking forward to see Dattoli team up Papley at some stage, should his projectory continue. Nice that we no longer have to scrap the bottom of the barrel with our reduced injury list and mediocre individual performances are no longer tolerateed as a result.

Hope we're able to successfully crowd the Dogs forward line on the smaller SCG, to limit Sam Darcy and Aaron Naughton's run/jump at the ball.

    IN: Florent (Sub)
    OUT: Francis

While I see your point, I'd be tempted to go with an unchanged side. But that's largely to celebrate the fact that we got through a round without further injuries or suspensions. Well, Paton was concussed in the VFL match, but his skills are more at the level of a VFL top up, than someone pushing for AFL selection.

Richards & Bont have been sublime and will require close attention. Jordan on Richards and Mills onto Bont.

Another way to neutralise Darcy and Naughton is to outscore the Bulldogs at the other end. It's not possible to do this when Sydney is ranked bottom four for accuracy in front of goal.

First order of business: goalkicking practice. First, practice set shots to work on any problems with the technique of individual players. Then, practice kicking for goal in general play. Sydney is ranked last for accuracy from general play this year and this needs much work to fix.

Anyone catch the ressies game? Lloyd's 38 disposals is not too be sniffed at and shows he's interested in redemption.

I'd have him in the team in place of Florent who looks like he hasn't really impacted the VFL side that much.

But my first preference is to keep the team as is with Bice to get another run at sub this week.

I suspect that you have made a typo error here. No matter if Paton was not concussed he has demonstrated that he is not up to AFL standards.
My feeling is Florent for McLean who is really struggling at the moment. You can then use Armartey as the relief ruckman with Francis as backup forward while Grund

Amartey with his injury history should never be used in the ruck. Not against Ladhams in place of McLean because Ladhams extra height will be needed against the Dogs, they have 207/208cm rucks

Lloyd as sub in place of Bice

100with this assessment. Never put AMARTEY in the ruck. Lloyd for Bice sounds good - Clearly may be worth including

Didn't see it but I'm guessing the role Lloyd played in the Ressies is one he wouldnt in the League....Where as Floreant would be asked to do a similar Role as a midfielder.
                    All for Ollie not Lloyd.

As for Goalkicking Amartey was 11.7 before the weekend, terrible, poor yes yes but not a pattern.

Like Ladhams on the basis of giving Grundy a bigger chop out against higher quality rucks but I'd keep Mclean and drop Francis.

Nothing against Francis, he is doing his job which is to perform when called upon.

Chad interview was quite enlightening. Talked about off-field standards falling and that had now been addressed. Seemed to imply that Ollie needed to lift in this area and now is training the house down.

The Dogs have the tallest backs in the AFL. Tallest team actually. There are 5 players over 190 in their backs. Three over 196. You want to go down the road of smalls with only the resting ruck and Amartey. Good on ya. Farewell win.

McLean, who has been incredibly ordinary this year, was definitely injured last week. He couldn't run and chase in the last quarter at all. I see him going out. I think Rowie is banged up but he won't be rested this week or next. But I would rest him anyway and play differently

Out; McLean (injured and not in form), Rowie (He has been down on form, only 14 disposals last week and 15 the week before, I think he is injured/sore)
In; Buller/Ladhams, Florent ( to play in the mids, not back or wing)

No Amartey as ruck. bugger that. He took 8 marks last week. Impacted the contest on 17 occasions. If he had kicked straight we win by over 10 goals. Who is going to play tall target while Amartey is wasted in the ruck? Francis? Wil? Paps? Heens? Who?

I think we do put McLean out to pasture for a few weeks to get his body right. But bring in one of Ladhams or Buller. You play the opponent. You have to know the opponent. They are tall down back and bringing in another small isn't going to help much in reality, unless you can guarantee the ball will go in low. can you?

                          Their backs;

                          Bailey Williams 190cm and fast
                          James O'Donnell 197 and fast
Nick Coffield 191, not so fast
                          Sam Davidson 191 and fast
                          Rory Lobb 207, not fast
Bailey Dale 188, fast and clever
Lachlan Bramble 182, fast plays on small forwards

They're tall. They are very mobile for a tall backline. They also have a smalls specialist, in Bramble, if they need him to play on a Papley, Campbell etc. But the rest are over 190cm except Dale, who is 188.

We need to make these guys earn their pay.

In the mids, we are as good as they are. Libba is an in and under beast, but like Rowie, he doesn't accumulate megga disposals. Bont, Richards, West, Hynes, Dolan, Kennedy, possibly Garcia (he got 38 in thre Twos last week and Treloar is injured again). Other than Libba, Richards, Bont and Kennedy they are quite young in the mids. Maybe they bring Harmes in there. Who knows. I think overall our mids are more battle hardened. We run deeper for experience. If they keep their A team in there for long periods they will tire.

They will but they also tire because out of all their mids, only these two, Libba and Kennedy are experienced players. Unless they play Harmes in the mids of course.
