Don't know when Amartey did his hamstring, but the mystery injuries are starting to drive me a bit crazy.
Unfortunately Joel has a weakness in his hammies- he was out for a while already with a hammy and his 3 week suspension didn’t help at all. Coming back from that and the bye, his game was good apart from his kicking. Looking back, his kicks looked shallow with poor follow through, so maybe he was feeling his hammy already against Port. During the week he practiced goal kicking and maybe he over did it!!

I feel tonight’s game will define our season- the Fairypups are in top form and looking menacing. We have a good side on paper but let’s not forget that Mills, Errol and Paps are very short of match fitness having just come back after lengthy layoffs. Plus Amartey is out and even though his kicking was off last week, he presented well and was a key player in our forward setup.. I’ll be happy if we are competitive tonight and delighted if we can sneak a win, but the Dogs will be fierce opponents.

They are at bogey side but their form is no better than ours. May have plyed ok but beaten no-one.

If not now when ? Home game, we have to get this

Form against top-8 teams: 1 win (GWS Giants, 7th), 5 losses.
Form against teams not in the top 8: 7 wins, 1 loss (Suns, 9th).

The Swans normally put the emergency at half-time of the VFL game. But today they've held Cleary back from the start, and Buller has also failed to take his place after being spotted warming up with the VFL team. It's possible Buller injured himself during the warm-up, but it might also indicate a late senior change?

Though Cleary wasn't named as an emergency yesterday, so maybe he's injured rather than a late change into the senior team.

We will get a better idea if either Bice or Ladhams get taken off at halftime in the VFL game. Then it would mean they are the real emergency and that Buller is playing

Maybe. Though Buller may just have injured himself in the warm-up.

I think that, if McLean were injured (the most likely based on last week), Ladhams would be a more obvious replacement than Buller. I think his VFL form has been better, he's more experienced at AFL level, and he can provide Grundy with a proper ruck chop out.

The team list at the VFL website has been updated with

Jack Buller (AFL emergency), Caiden Cleary (illness)

Hawks forward to return from ACL layoff; Sun named for milestone game; Demons bolster with star inclusions; Pies make eight changes for trip north

John Ralph (HS) reporting Tom McCartin is in doubt tonight with Gastro! Losing our bookends. particularly against the Dogs is not ideal. Hope it's not spreading in the club, as Cleary is also out with illness.

With Darcy and Haughton up forward, McCartin is the last person we need to be ill.

Oh man. That would explain Buller missing the VFL fixture as the AFL emergency. Presumably, Francis would play defence. It would be a bad out.

Likely Francis gets moved back and Buller comes in up forward.

But the worry with this stuff is the bug is in the team, and while a few other blokes might still play, they'll be low on energy. (Actually, the real worry is not having our best defender against the guy who's about to change the game, but that's another story).

                              Not good.

UPDATE: Tom McCartin is now highly unlikely to play according to Johnny Ralph
