Absolutely clutch. The contested mark and banana from the pocket was brilliant. Then hard running and steadied for the set shot and the intercept mark with a minute to go.

Cox has confirmed McCartin has entered concussion protocols. Not surprising that they’re being cautious but hopefully that’s all it is and he’s ok.

Agree. The Saints played out of their skin and of course deserved praise, but it got too much when they received most of the focus in such a close game. As such, they overlooked the fact that we came from 3 goals down in the last quarter with a rotation and key back down.

it got to me during the 3rd qtr, when Healy began debating ad nauseam whether Buller deserved the free kick and resulting goal from that obvious jumper pull. Jack Reildwoldt had to finally shut him up by saying it is still a free kick!

I thought it was a gutsy Bloods like win, considering our golden trio of Heeney, Gulden and Warner were all below their best, along with the Lizard and Juzzy having shockers.

It was pleasing to see our 2nd tier in the likes of Hayward, Campbell, Sheldrick and Rowey get us home, along with Lloyd and Grundy who had great games. This is a departure from last year when we were so dependent on the golden trio to pull us out of trouble.

Rapt to see Buller's confidence grow with every game and this being his best. Could've kicked 4 had he been paid that obvious HTB and Heeney not spoiling his marking attempt coming in with the flight of the ball. Thought he was never gonna get a game when he was continually overlooked during our horrific injury toll. But now deserves to get a long run at it, particularly with Armatey out for rest of the season.

Good summary. Buller in a way was playing for his future and came through with a number of big plays and accurate kicking.

How did Sheldrick go? He's hardly been mentioned in this thread and he was listed as amongst the best in the match report on the AFL website.

Well eff me, we got out of that. Not a good match from us. first quarter ok. Good in the first half of the quarter. The next two were toxic. The last was very good. The gap between our good and bad can be seen in most matches because we never play a full game. We bomb. Why? We miss easy kicks and handball. Why? Haven't our players done the work on the track? Are they lazy? What turns great disposers like Bice, Roberts, Gulden. Heeney, Blakey, Campbell into mediocre disposers in 5 matches? What is it about our training sessions that degrade skills so badly? In the middle of this game we saw some of the best examples of the worst disposal in the history of the game. Heeney, not once but three times, handballs to opponents. He kicks over the head of his forward three times. Roberts, fires out several long passes, that go directly to opponents. Gulden kicks directly to opponents on three occasions. Bice grubbers one. Blakey does the run but kicks directly to opponents one three occasions. he coughs up a pass that costs a goal. What is it they are not doing at training that makes this happen. It wouldn't be something they ARE doing, it would be a lack of something. High pressure match play? Skills work? something. If we fix that we fix our game day problems.

The other thing is about our forwards and mids not putting enough pressure on and the zone is the problem. We give far too much room to their defenders when they are taking kick ins. We are at least 10 metres off them which means they are always going to find a target. The other thing is our mids don't put enough pressure on when their opponents get a run on. The drop off. In the middle of the game this is exactly what happened. Gus had a good game and he is learning to chase, but he still drops off too easily. I saw him start to chase, stop and then think about it and chase. Not good enough Gus. Obviously, defensive running is not his forte, not natural to him.

But we got out of gaol. We put plenty of pressure on in the last and got the job done against a young team. Our players are overrated big time and need reminding of that fact. We need to develop a Team Now approach, not 'I'm a bloody STAR look at me'.

By the way I thought two players were pivotal in the win. Jack Buller up forward, who just gives you a contest every time and Joel Hamling, who just quietly gets it done.

For mine, Sheldrick played his most influential game so far. Kicked clutch goal and was busy in the clitches when it counted. Helped us home when Heeney, Gulden & Warner were off their best.

Yes I thought Buller very good and I'm pissed off we didn't play him earlier. I think the problem he had was thet he didn't actually excel in his first game and Horse didn't rate him. I think that has carried over. All he needed was a dec ent midfield because he can sure take a mark and he has footy smarts.

Lovely to see the players who aren't rated win the game for us. Bice, Roberts, Buller, Lloyd, Campbell, Wil etc. I am a bit pissed off with Wil and the forwards. They are not leading up at the ball carrier enough. Maybe that has been the game plan. But in the last Campbell, Bice and Roberts were getting frustrated the forwards were static. Buller, Wil and Dossa eventually led up and we got the ball moving inside 50.

Put 2 talls alongside Wil and he is a different player

Expecting him to be on the lead every time fwd is madness, the guys distance travelled in yesterday's game was all basically at full tilt.

Francis not being a fwd is what made our fwd line static, 3 goals against Port when the mids where smashing it is a furphy, a scare crow would have kicked 3 in that game

Buller was good, opportunity is one thing but it has to click that he has it all in front of him if he wants it. Was good to see him get up the ground and impact, looks alot more likely from 40m+

Hamling was very good, amazing when he is played in the role that suits

Francis is backup for a big man being out, can't continue to play him in front of Ladhams or even Green, id prefer to see Green get a half than Francis
