While I'd hate to see another Hawthorn premiership, I do quite admire the rapid rebuild that Mitchell has done, and when discussing the game, he tends to give the impression that he knows what he's talking about. With Hodge, he often seems to me the most insightful of Channel 7 commentators. So it's possible, that Clarkson got a name for himself as a master tactician, when a fair chunk of the work was being done by his offsiders. And North do have plenty of talent on their list, but they've hardly made any progress during his tenure.

And on North. With Tasmania coming in, I don't really like the idea of a 19 team competition and I'm not sure if there's the depth of talent to expand to 20. So perhaps a club needs to be culled to bring the competition back to 18? The obvious candidates are poorly performing Melbourne clubs: which essentially means North or St Kilda. Or maybe there could be a merger between the two? The Northern Aints has a certain appeal to me.
Sadly more hope of a game being played by the AFL on the moon then there is of culling some teams. I've long thought we should have a 14 team comp, with 26 rounds full home and away. 2 x NSW, 2 x QLD, 2 x SA, 2 x WA, TAS, NT? plus 4 Melbourne teams only.

Imagine the outrage if that was to happen.

Yes, totally agree - I was at the Olympic stadium to see and hear that disgraceful effort by North fans

So was I. It was completely shameful and I’ve despised them ever since. Karma seems to have hit them right between the eyes.

St Kilda sets a new record by winning the game from 46 points down at 3/4 time with a goal after the final siren. The previous record was 45 points. Melbourne could have drawn the game if they hadn't hadn't given away a free kick inside the last 10 seconds.

That finish to Saints-Demons was the most amazing last quarter I have ever seen. Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera is an absolute genius.

There were plenty of far worse capitulations this weekend to move the focus. Apart from today it’s been a shocker of a round.

I was on my computer with the match on the TV behind me and checked the score from the Dees/Saints game and it was 90 all. WTF I exclaimed, turning to see what was happening on the tele. Wanganeen Milera had the ball and was lining up after the siren.....what a comeback, what a finish!!

Clarkson looks totally disinterested when he's in the coaches box. I don't know if it's just older, wiser and less prone to passionate outbursts, or if he really doesn't care much, or if he's just in it for the money. Hard to read from the TV though. Perhaps he's completely different at training.

Right now, NAS is to the game what Chad was 18 months ago - the hottest young player in the comp. He’s a superstar. And if St Kilda can’t keep him, it’ll set them back a decade.

Yep, they need to do everything in their power to keep him at the club.

Stupid club I'd say it would be too hard to satisfy a club via picks for him so Saints will keep him, worth every penny.

Yes, if a player can make a Ross Lyon coached side fun to watch, then they're worth the big bucks.

After hearing of today's Saints miraculous win from 46 pts down at 3/4 time v Dees. A record. I recall similar game & comeback in 1994 also by Saints against us at the SCG. Checked to find we were 38 points up at 3/4. Kicked first goal early in the last qtr to put us by 44 pts, only for the Plugger led Saints to over run us as we stopped to a walk.

This was the same game Plugger tried to kill both Peter Caven with his elbow and Kenny behind the goals wth a low torpedo. The following year Plugger was in Red & White!

I think North fans might be regretting the club had rejected the move to the Gold Coast with all the draft and salary concessions offered up by the AFL at the time, plus having an Academy.
