Swans chat 20 YEARS AGO TODAY......

    Leo Barry You Star!!!!
After 72 years HERE IT IS!!!!

A day i'll never forget as i'm not ashamed to admit, that i broke down with joy when the final siren rang. Thought i was going to have a heart attack during the last quarter. Extreme tension i haven't felt before or since at the footy. Got home at 4am after doing Clarendon St Pub Crawl and then fronting up to the team celebration at Albert Park few hours later. The day still warms my heart, GO BLOODS!!!!

It'll warm our hearts for the rest of our lives, KSAS, and I, too, shed tears of joy on the day and numerous times in the weeks afterwards!

      GO YOU MIGHTY BLOODS!!

Even now, I still get goosebumps when I hear Steve Quartermaine’s famous call of Leo’s mark. The hairs on my neck prickle. An iconic call worthy of an iconic moment.
My opinion is objective truth in its purest form

Still the greatest mark in the history of the game, given the moment.

One memory of mine is not realising that till the next day. I was at the far end of the ground in the upper echelon of the stands, and from a distance, merely saw a blur of bodies. I couldn't really see the mark. Then went bar hopping till god knows what hours. For whatever reason, I didn't see a replay of the mark. It was only the next morning - nursing one mother of a hangover - that I was watching one of the footy shows in Melbourne that I saw it. Oh boy.

Hey imuninformedtwo, i had identical experience! Wasn’t till i started my Clarendon St pub crawl that i first got to see Leo Barry's mark properly. Walked into the Emerald Hotel when the mark just happened to be replayed in slo mo on the big screen. A huge roar followed from the packed out house and my jaw hit the ground! It only then hit me the seismic magnitude of that mark!

Edit: I didn't get to hear Stephen Quartermain's famous call of that mark till the following day, as the sound was completely drowned out!

I was at the game and I had a surprisingly good view of Barry's mark from a position at the same end, opposite the broadcast and high up in the nosebleed seats. I saw at the time that the pack had four Sydney players in the front and three Eagles at the back. This is also seen in the telecast (which I only saw later). For the last minute or two of the game I was wondering when they would blow the siren, getting more desperate to hear it the closer the ball got to the Eagles' goal. Then when the siren went I couldn't even hear it. Just a lot of cheering, and it was only when I heard the team song that I knew we had won. Then I could not keep back the tears.

I ran into Quartermain at an event a few years later. He nailed the in the moment call, but also in the aftermath, about a minute after the siren said: “and they’ll talk about Leo Barry’s mark forever”.

That was the bit he was most proud of as a caller.

Fond memories sure but I'm just a little sad that we've had to wring so much nostalgic joy out of just this (and 2005). Should have had at least two more since '12.
