Brisbane made a bit of a late charge, to get the margin back to 40-32. Largely due to being right on top in clearances. I thought our defence was generally playing well, though. Our tackling has been pretty impressive, with 60 in the first half. Possibly should have been rewarded with a few more frees.

HT: 6.4 v 5.2
Brisbane came back with the last 4 goals of that quarter as they were kicking with the breeze. I think we are doing pretty well to still be leading, with desperation shown to defend our goal. After all Brisbane have 483 games of AFL experience out there to our 188 games.
Kyle and Snell looked good that quarter, also noticed that when Dattoli went into the middle late he won the next two clearances.Comment

Cootee is playing well in the conditions. Five goals so far. Cootee is a player who thrives in windy weather and wet weather.
Sydney have two goal kickers so far. Cootee has five, Dattoli has three."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Managed to eke out the lead to 55-39 in some atrocious conditions. Cootee's 5 goals and 13 tackles is a handy effort. Cleary spending more time in the middle in that quarter helped. Dattoli looks dangerous when he's near the ball.Comment

I have been enjoying this VFL side, as they usually put in a whole hearted effort. Today's tackle count of 101 suggests that we did that. I also think that pretty well everyone played a decent game and had some sort of hand in the victory.
While most people would go Cootee for BOG, I suspect that the coaching staff would be just as happy with Dattoli. He topped the stats for clearances and contested possessions, along with 3 goals and 6 tackles. Which suggests that he has significantly improved his tank from the start of the year and that he could probably handle a promotion to the AFL, in a hybrid forward and midfield role. Kyle was also very good. 30 possessions, 11 of which were intercept possessions, and he was always willing to launch rebounds in obviously difficult conditions.Last edited by dejavoodoo44; Today, 04:03 PM.👍 1Comment

One of our young talent hasn't been given much credit particularly over the last couple of weeks since Ladhams was promoted and then injured, is Will Green. Will battled against 2 opposition rucks and held his own. If you look at the stats today, he came home like a train in second half doubling hitout count. I hope he gets to showcase his talent soon as Ladhams may be gone next seasonComment

A few games in the seniors, and Kyle is already too good for VFL. His development trajectory is scary good.
And that game again convinced me Dattoli's future is as a midfielder as much as it is as a small forward. He'll at least be a 50-50 player. Beautiful hands.
Nice to see those two plus Cootee keep up pressure on the seniors, and Snell reinforced he could play if we needed him.👍 1Comment

That was a hard fought win over what was a much more experienced side, with good signs from virtually all of our AFL-listed players. I feel one key move was putting Dattoli into the center - we lost clearances by 17 in the first half but only by -4 in the second half with Cleary, Shipley and Dattoli allowing us to break even.
3 votes - Cootee. Outstanding performance given the conditions, working hard in both directions and clean with his disposals.
2 - Dattoli. Dangerous forward in the first half applying pressure and taking his chances, then excellent in close in the second half, winning the most clearances on the ground.
1 - Kyle. Clean and composed coming out of defence and worked hard positioned beatifully to intercept.
Snell had another good game in defence, and Green solo rucked and improved as the game went on, though he should have converted at least one of his shots.
Henry Meaney in his first game in the VFL looked like he belonged, I was more impressed by this game than others at U18 level where he has been more productive.👍 1Comment

Amazing what playing a few senior games can do for your confidence - this exactly what we needed to see from the young fella let’s hope it’s upwards and onwards from here for himA few games in the seniors, and Kyle is already too good for VFL. His development trajectory is scary good.

I agree fully with all of this couldn’t of put it better myself, Meany getting injured may be a blessing in disguise we don’t want him jumping to high up the draft boardThat was a hard fought win over what was a much more experienced side, with good signs from virtually all of our AFL-listed players.
