    Richmond Vs Adelaide ( spoliers)

richmond didnt want another 118 point belting this week so they decided to play some real footy & take the crows by the throat. tigers up by 16 pts with 10 mins remaining, you would think the tigers would get up since they have been on top all day but who knows.

    - They broke the world record for marks!
    - Adelaide panicked in the last quarter, they had their chances.
    - Scott Stevens is hopeless at CHB! No wonder we never tried him there. Looks as though he hasn't put on much muscle since his move.

So many AFL games these days have become boring. Lots and lots of stats, little action. A bit like watching training drills.

As it looks AFL will introduce the rule they introduced in pre-season cup to disallow marks when kicking backwards. Most likely we'll be heading that way next year.

I think that's good. Worked well in the pre-season. There should be very little need to kick the ball backwards.

What about from the pocket on the impossible angle to a player 35 metres out, right in front. I think it will be a disaster - just something else for the umpires to @@@@ up. Maybe limit it to backwards kicks marked inside the defensive 50?

Listening to the ABC commentators, they said it was the worst game of football they have seen. Their comment was that once Richmond got a couple of goals ahead...in about the middle of the second qrtr...they then shut the game down for the rest of the time. Whilst the team did what they had to do to win, they said it was horrble to watch.

They also said in comparison to Sydney, that the Swans never do it for extended periods of time, only at times when it suits them, then they play the fast flowing football to break the game open.

Evidently there was heaps of booing at Richmonds tactics, but the commentators said they couldn't tell whether it was from Tigers or Crows supporters.

In the pre-season you were allowed to kick backwards in the F50.

Did the kicker have to be in the F50, or the marker?

Why wont it lead to more flooding? If teams are discouraged from kicking backwards why not get all your players in front of (behind) the ball. In turn this will lead to more short horizontal passing. The game should be let evolve - not forced into shape with rule changes to try and make it something that people perceive that it used to be.

Kicker. Can't recall about the marker.

This is the usual argument. However, if the opposition floods back with say 14 players and leaves 4 out, then you can leave 10 out and have 6 free. Hence with all those free men you can still go backwards without too much trouble.

Possibly. However, I think it is very difficult to stop a team who want to chip the ball around.

Blaming Richmond's tactics takes too much blame away from Adelaide. They played @@@@, they lost. If they were better on the day they could've rolled Richmond regardless of their tactics.
