As much as I'm a believer in McVeigh-as-the-new-Willo, I have to be a wet blanket here. The hype has been around for 2 years, and there have been too many 'glimpses' and not enough sustained performances in that time, which justifies some caution.

Last 2 or 3 weeks have been a step up; but it's easy to look good in a team that's winning. I want to see more of McVeigh when the game is on the line or we're 5 goals down, before concluding that he's arrived.

I don't 'get' how anyone could say 'he isn't a particularly accurate or long kick'. It's this feature, more than his endurance, that led to him being draft selection #5. Completely agree that being on the forward line gives him a simpler task and so he doesn't get carried away with option anxiety.

PS Can we rename this thread? Has anyone ever called him 'Macca'?

Wait a minute what about McLoughlin, or Macceski, or McWilliams...I still can't work it out.

What an excellent phrase for the condition.

Perhaps poor Ben Matthews, has been suffering chronic "option anxiety" for all these years.

Perhaps he's a carrier, he may have infected McVeigh and LRT.

Lets hope McVeigh's condition has been diagnosed in time.

Perhaps someone should found a support group, call it OA.

I think that Jude or Roos referred to him as Macca this week. (goes with Goodsey, Hally and now Craigie-pie)

                      You're all on drugs.
                      Fossie = new Willo.
It's about time he saw more minutes on the paddock. Willo should be warming the pine.

I thought this was because he played off the bench and was in and out of the seniors. This year we are seeing better performances as a result of being given more game time and a long string of senior games.
                        McVeigh as the new Willo?
Nah, he doesn't have the hair for it.

I take it back, I had no idea he was a BOOMING Wayne Carey style kick for goal!

What have you been calling him in the throws of fast paced footy when the heat is on for an exciting goal? Jarrad? Junior? JJ? MJ? HoJu?

McVeigh, same number of sylables as Macca.
Maybe you need a certain number of senior games to be credited with a nickname, unless you have an unusual surname?

Is that how you classify whether a nicknameis valid? It HAS TO BE an abreviation of the surname?

I just call him McVeigh. I have no problem with the concept of calling him Macca, I just don't do it nor can I recall anyone else, which is not to say no one else has.
