I remember growing up in 1996 and hearing the sydney song that was played to the lines of " Up There Cazaly"

it was areally stiring song and i havent heard it in Yonks ( Years )
so was just wandering if anyone by any chance would somehow have it on there computer or could share a link with us.

Or if there are were any other songs apart from our current one, I'd love to hear them

    Any Input is appreciated, Thanks

Theres a feeling in the city
    They're talking in the town
    today we're making history
and we wont let you down

We're the swans and we are sydney
    We'll set the town alight
get ready for the lift off
    This bird id taking flight

    Chorus:
    Up there for sydney
    in there and fight
    The spirit of cazaly
    the red and the white
    Up there for sydney
    sydney come on
    High flyin red blooded
    we are the sydney swans

    Things dont come that easy
when its one against the rest
you have to show your courage
when you want to be the best

    Cazalys inspiration
    is winning do or die
    We're out to show australia
now watch these big birds fly
Some people say Football is a matter of life and death - I say it's a lot more important than that!

It was a bit embarrassing - it was Up There Cazaly bastardised for the Swans circus around the mid-90s. The players have always sang Cheer Cheer in the rooms after a win.

Mid 80's actually. It reverted back to Cheer Cheer in the early-mid90's.

The first time I remembering hearing that Up Ther for Sydney song played in Melbourne was at the beginning of the '96 Grand Final. I was very upset that they didn't play Cheer Cheer.

I remember Cazaly was played at some stage at the start of the match either at the MCG or Waverley Park (or both) depending on who the home team was as they didn't want to play Cheer, Cheer ... Wasn't there also a period where, when our Swannies (and other teams??) beat either the Hawks or Saints at Waverley that our song was NOT played ? I think they only had the home team theme songs or were not allowed to play the other ones.

            Or am I dreaming ? Again ... It's late

Does anyone know when it was that they first started playing the club song when the teams run out onto the ground? I don't remember it in the 70's and early 80's. So I'm guessing that it started sometime around the early to mid 80's. It may have even started when the Swans moved to Sydney.

I always remembered that they played Up there for Sydney before the game, and Cheer, Cheer after a win.

I always saw Cheer, Cheer as our victory song, and for a long while was a bit superstitious about hearing it before the game, but now I see it as our club song rather than just a victory song.

I did love Up there for Sydney, more than Cheer, Cheer when I was a kid, but I think a little too Sydney-centric, and when the club decided to re-affirm our South Melbourne roots they seemed to shelf it.

Maybe now we've dedicated a premiership to the 72 year wait, the next one can be for the Sydney brigade who managed to squeezed a century of pain and suffering into 20 years.

I have the 2 Man Band Version.. mate private message me your MSN / ICQ / Yahoo and I have a copy I have from erh.. a erh.. "music from CD's on my computer".

Pretty sure they didn't have a "swans-version" of it.. they had the 2-Man-Band version at the GF 05' .. the choir actually sang that and nobody in the sea of red I was in knew the song except me

We really have to keep the history, and if anything this song! Coz if you look up the history on that Roy Cazaly guy, 378 games, a DEAD SET HERO... and AFL Hall of Famer!

Apparently the "Up there Cazaly" was used by the ANZACs in the war like when he was in the ruck for inspiration!

Army guy, former Saints player (hahaha!), and more importantly:
South Melbourne Swans player-coach! (Imagine Roosey as both a player and coach at the same time!)

                  Lyrics are here:

I did that a long time ago. In the VFL he played 99 games for St Kilda and 99 games for South Melbourne.

Says in full points that "Cazaly was more than just a brilliant aerialist, however. A non-smoking teetotaller, he was ahead of his time as far as fitness went, and he combined superb physical conditioning with an acute football brain. The former enabled him to play well over 400 senior games in Victoria and Tasmania, while the latter was on eminent display during a highly successful 7 premiership coaching career."

400? A bit weird.. ah well.. must include the coaching days into the 1960's too..
