Individual performances

OK, much has been said about our slow start to the season.
Some blamed it on our late start to pre-season training due to our GRAND FINAL VICTORY!!!
Others blamed it on a few injuries we had over the pre-season.
Many blamed it on diverting from the game plan and too many "individual performances".
Kirky has once again raised this chesnut on Foxsports: ""We probably tested the water a bit earlier, going down an individual path and going away from the areas that Roosy wants us to play." (http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0...-23211,00.html)
On this I am still confused. Who amongst our team of ultra-committed diehard Bloods would be insolent enough to play for themselves. I saw all the early games and still can't pinpoint who was playing for personal glory. Who amongst us is willing to name names?

I reckon there were quite a few who did this. Goodes, Ablett and Davis I felt were doing it. And Kirk and Bolton seemed to be less inclined to do the hard stuff.

But then our most "individualistic" players would look like avid team players in any other team.

I thought Goodes was an example of what the rest of the team should have been doing, especially in the first two games. The guy was just motoring.

IMO they were just not "in the moment" for 4 weeks...sort of "I play for this marvellous team that plays for each other...goes in hard...not great players but a great team...shed blood & all that".
What am I saying? That all the analysis / talk / hype for the previous several months had them all thinking (at least a little bit) that someone else would do it for them!
I evidence this by the losses, the disposal, the watching as play went by etc... that's MO.

I thought Davo was the exception in the first few weeks. The worst proponent IMO was O'Keefe in early games - really pinged away like he could pot them from anywhere and ignored good leads from Davis continually.

However, now I'd say it's more about match practice together. Skills were poor, kicking for goal was poor, leading was always to a wing and close to 50m arc.

But isn't it glorious at the moment. Can't wait to see if they can produce this agst Pies/Eagles!

There was a thread doing the rounds after the first few weeks about the "Duck of the Week" - harsh but not unfair - I saw more Swans shirking the issue in the 1st 4 rounds than I saw in the entire 2005 season.

Personally, I haven't seen another DOTW candidate since round 4 - more evidence that the Right Stuff is back in place. Indeed, Kirk on Saturday either had gone with some Cameron Diaz-style hair product or had scored his 1st "Bloods" knock of the year.

They said on the TV that he had received a gash to the head. I guess the vaseline stopped the bleeding.

Watching Sydney play at the moment is pure joy. It is, at times, beautiful sometimes perfect football. We are very lucky to be witnessing this. Many people never have this experience - watching their premiership winning team playing for back to back and looking like they are seriously capable of doing it. Sure, there's a long way to go and anything can happen. And the PFs and GF could be won by any one of four teams at the moment, but right now I am loving my footy!!!

My physio told me that they often use super glue to stop the bleeding

In my experience with my kids at 3, one can never be sure which came first, the split head or the superglue.
