    Swans' Robbie Williams Spam

Did anyone else receive spam from Juice Media advertising the Robbie Williams concert?

And is Juice Media allowed to use the Swans' email distribution list for this purpose?

I got it, viewed it and deleted it. I saw the Swans logo and didn't give it too much thought. Are you saying the club has nothing to do with this "promotion"? Nothing would surprise me anymore, and this would be well disguised spam if that's what it was.

No, but I got one from Ticketmaster as a result of registering with them for PF tickets last year.

Im not sure, but given it came from Juice Media and not the Swans and has nothing to do with football...

I guess Im concerned that Juice media, who send out stuff on behalf of the swans, are using the swans' email distribution list to send out spam, which I havent agreed to receive.

            Edit: spelling and stuff

If so then it is a breach of the privacy act!

I just went back to have a look at the deleted item. Part of the text says "You must be a My Ticketek member to participate in this pre sale. If you are not already a member, we strongly advise that you join prior to the pre sale."
I think I am such a member (it's been a while since I've bought tickets online) but I've also bought guest tickets for Swans games at Ticketek outlets so maybe there is some sort of a link.

Even if it came from the Swans it is a breach of privacy IMO. It is not related to the reason you provided the Swans with your email address. I got it and I thought poor form. They are probably getting a kick back on sending the messsage,

I sent an email to Swans Membership asking why Juice Media were sending emails out purporting to be from Swans Membership, who gave them my email address and authorised them to email in relation to non-Swans related material and why.

All promotional email in Australia is governed by the Spam Act 2003. Such messages are covered by stringent conditions, including accurate sender information, accurate routing information and a working unsubscribe link. If the email lacks a working unsubscribe link or is otherwise noncompliant, you can report it to the appropriate authorities who will take action to remedy the breach.

Unfortunately, the Spam Act does not have harsh enough penalties for commercial operators, and the penalties amount to a slap on the wrist more often than not.

What I do to combat spam is to own my own domain and use a unique email address for every company. Then it becomes very easy to see who's sold my email address for profit. All it takes is a few mouse clicks and I can block that address permanently. If the company wants a replacement email address, well it's going to cost them an "activation fee" to replace it....

Yes I can be evil. *snicker*

It's all usually in the small print.

Robbie played a cracker of the game in the ressies last week. His effort was totally overshadowed by Schmidt's 62, though.
And you can't find nothing at all,
If there was nothing there all along.

He was doing it for the kids, bless his heart.
