and to think they were one of the clubs that campaigned to get rid of the extra 1st Round picks for teams that fail to win 5 games in a season.
      Once was, now elsewhere

The main problem is the worse Essendon gets, the worse our loss in round 1 looks.

Yes!! the worst thing about their lovely decline is that the Swans will be mentioned in every bloody story about them until they win again!

Essendon were near-full strength in round 1 and now they don't have Lloyd for the season and Hird is currently injured. Fletcher the serial tripper is still in the side but he's near the end of his career. Bomber fans are looking at the post-Hird era and don't like it a bit.

I think it's time to get out those old wooden spoons painted in Carlton colours and give them a new red and black paint job.

Yeah, but in Round 1, they had Hird and Lloyd.

                    Only Lloyd.

He wouldn't have made any difference last night.

However, with him in the side they could have won 4-6 games by now.

It's amazing the change of fortunes for the previous powerhouse teams.

Of the past 39 flags, 29 have been won by the same five teams. If you excluded the past five flags, then those five teams have won 29 out of 34!

Essendon, currently 1-8 and 76%, in 16th place, has won 4 of them.

Carlton, currently 2-7 and 74%, in 15th place, has won 8 of them.

Kangaroos, currently 2-7 and 76%, in 14th place, has won 4 of them.

Hawthorn, currently 4-5 and 85%, in 11th place, has won 8 of them.

Richmond, currently 5-4 and 75%, in 9th place, has won 5 of them.

It was inevitable that the Bombers were going to slump badly. After the success Essendon have had for the past few years, they haven't been getting the best draft picks and many of the "Baby Bombers" have either retired or on their final run. Expect a lot of priority picking from the Dons...

...or at least the free kick counts.

Only over a two year period (decided on how wins in that two year period) and only then you get the extra pick after the first round of the draft, not before it.

Funniest thing I heard about last night was on the Coodabeens this morning. I think it was Champs was at the game last night and an Essendon supporter said to him "We don't deserve this." And the guy was dead set serious.
