I felt a little sorry for Laidley when I saw the snippet of his press conference. Not because his team lost a game it should have won - there is no room for sentimentality when your team is seeking only its second premiership in 73 years.
But his despondancy when he talked about the domination of red and white in the crowd was sad.
I don't feel that sorry for the club as a whole. Their efforts to penetrate the Sydney market were half-hearted and not well thought out. Similarly, it is hard to see why the Canberra public should get behind them when they've made it clear they will relocate to the Gold Coast if they get a better offer. But I do feel a little sympathy for the coaches and players having to contend with a situation where their future is so uncertain and their support getting thinner by the year.
As far as the game goes, everyone's been saying how good Kirk was, especially in the final term, but who was playing on Daniel Harris? By a process of elimination I've concluded it must have been Kirk. IMHO Harris is vying with Hall for BOG honours. His clearances were the major reason why the Kangas dominated for so much of the game.
On the other hand, Bolton (C)'s game impressed me even more when I watched the replay, not only because he got so much ball himself and used it so well (two bad errors notwithstanding). I believe he was also responsible for Corey Jones for much of the game, and Jones barely got a look in. He's exactly the kind of forward who flourishes in difficult conditions and could have caused major problems for the Sydney defence had he got a look in.Comment

No sympathy at all. The North Melbourne club administration and board couldnt give a stuff about its supporters in Canberra. If they wont commit themselves to playing there long term, why should people in Canberra make the same long term commitment to support them. Especially when the reigning premiers are just a 3 hour drive away and wont be going anywhere else again EVER.Occupational hazards:
I don't eat animals since discovering this ability. I used to. But one day the lamb I was eating came through to me and ever since then I haven't been able to eat meat.Comment

Kirk was on Harris for most of the game.
I thought Jones spent a lot of time on the bench as they went with a super tall forward line of Thompson, Rawlings and Hale?Comment

Yeah - remember when the Roos tried to get all our Sydney members to sign up with them??? Cheeky buggers. I don't want to see them go down the gurgler like Fitzroy, but I also won't be the first one down to the Keep the Kangas alive campaign...Go you mighty BLOODBOYS!Comment

There are posters on bigfooty seriously proposing that the Roos' future is as follows:
1. Hock their sorry arses in Qld... ACT... anywhere. Their only interest will be the cash.
2. Get lots of nice cash for playing no-atmosphere games in front of few spectators, and put nothing into junior and game development.
3. Then cut and run as soon as they've squeezed as much cash as they can take out of the other states, and return to Melbourne where an adoring membership base of 30,000 will be there to nurse them to long term financial success.
They've really learnt from their Sydney debacle, hey? I know that you shouldn't judge every team by its stupidest supporters, but honestly: these people actually wonder why Canberra was a red and white crowd on Sunday and why they have few-to-no fans in the rest of the country.
I agree with Liz that the Roos' plight is no cause for hubris, but at least circa 1993/4 Sydney developed a long-term vision for its future and has stuck with it.Comment

Most North games I've been to over the last decade or so have seen more red and white than blue and white...and that includes Melbourne games. We demand rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty.Comment
