The crucial line is "... would be costly for clubs". Make no mistake, this is a 'reviewing the way the VFL works' process, not a 'creating an AFL-wide reserves comp' process. The latter is a pipe-dream and will remain so for many years to come.

Even creating a Victorian AFL clubs reserves comp would be very expensive, and when push came to shove the poorer clubs would probably rather spend their money/have the AFL spend money on other things.

Sydney needs to take positive steps itself to sort out the question of where its reserves play, and the standard of the opposition it plays against, rather than waiting for solutions from head office.

The reserves have been an absolute bloody joke for the last couple of years.

We will join a revamped AFL/VFL reserves comp as what we are in is bad for development. Wagga is going to leave at the end of the year for starters.

We wont be able to get young blokes to the club too easily the way we are going.

Absolutely correct, and Brisbane is not much better off.

I believe there should be a combined Sydney/Canberra comp that brings together the best sides. A strong comp might drag some handy footballers from Victoria to bolster the comp.

Not good for development of footy in the state at the moment or for the Swans reserves.

Tasmania play in the VFL so there would be no problem, one would think,of the Swans being accepted as well.Maybe Sydney doesn't want to spend the money of the travelling etc for the two's.
It is so unfair to the young guys who have shown promise along the way.We will be lucky to keep some of them if things don't improve quickly,

Sydney coach Paul Roos said the club is angry at the SCG Trust's decision to cancel its curtain raiser on Saturday night due to the wet conditions.
