Originally posted by Schneiderman But the one they didn't give us would have won us the game. With a ball coming in to the goal square (and this happened more than once) Hall was clearly being held onto and prevented from contesting the ball. All of the carry on about just how good a game Maguire had ignores the fact that he (unlike Leo Barry) had a free ride from the umps all night.
It was blatantly obvious on the TV too that Hall was being held on more than one occassion. But it seems that unless you are grabbed by the jumper it is not deemed as holding. Perfect exemple was the free that Gorilla got at the other end where he held Leo by the arm and pushed him off balance before getting paid a free for having his jumper held at the last second.

Exactly! But the Kirk one killed us as we were going forward - perhaps a 12 point turn around. You can get as many frees as you like in the last quarter (even if they are a bit suss) but unless they are in the forward 20 a la big Fraser, on a wet night it means you kick the ball 30 metres to the St K flood.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.
