Leaking Leo the sieve

I reckon if I were Leo, I'd be sitting down watching all the video of Scarlett I could find, he has similar physical attributes, but has managed to remain effective on the biggest forwards in the comp.

I know there is more to it including midfield pressure and defensive setup, but I reckon Scarlett just manages to do it more consistantly than other fullbacks.

Scarlett is 192cm and 95kg. Leo is 184cm and 88kg.

That is a significant difference in body size. Scarlett wouldn't be that far off the size of most of his opponents. Barry sometimes gives them four or five inches.

That's why he's had to rely on techniques like a slight chop to the arms as the forward is marking, or working the forward under the ball, or leaping early. We know that the first of these is something that the umpires have been instructed to police more closely this season. The second is something where Leo has been pinged many times for "in the back", sometimes fairly, sometimes very unfairly.

Parker is a slightly better comparison to Leo size-wise (@187cm, 92kg). I haven't watched enough of Freo this year to know how he's been going, or what types of player he's had as an opponent.

I actually didn't realise Scarlett was that much taller than Leo.

Interestingly, Scarlett's physical dimensions are similar to Vogels Height: 194cm / Weight: 92kg. I think Barry needs to become a creative half back flanker again and then settle Vogels into FB until a better option comes along. In any case, Barry can't move to the forward line because we'd then have two forward captains and no back half captain. Mass confiusion would reign.

Leo has been in some shocking form this year. Nothing seems to be going his way, and whne you're down on confidence that is generally how things will flow. I would love to see him given a lesser like when possible that he doesnt have to be 100% accountable to like he is with a Lloyd or Gherig, and just let him bounce off the half back line. Ever since we lost Scahuabs as a regular we have missed the penetrating drive that set up so much play in 2003.

Sheddy can't put Fletcher on Hall or the big strong forwards as, using a Rocket phrase, he sleeps with the lights on! When he played on Plugger he never came within 10 metres of him, especially after Plugger threw him into the fifth row. He is reported often but it is always for tripping or slapping at blokes as they go past.
