    Goodes & Brownlow

Goodes has just firmed as favourite for the Brownlow on Centrebet.

    Goodes - $6
    Judd - $7
    Brown $7
    Goodwin - $8
    Kerr/Reiwoldt/S West - $13
    Hall - $15
    .....
    J Bolton - $34

The $200 I slapped on Goodes a month ago at $18 is looking the real bargain, but a lazy $50 on Jude at $34 is also in order.

$200! Man, if I had $200 I wouldn't be wasting it on a bet. It would go a long way towards my new surfboard.

I'm not a betting person..GS14 would be proud of me(Catholics can never get rid of their guilt, old Methodists have trouble with gambling...don't know what happened to the drinking)

BUT....I don't feel it in my waters about Goodseyand the Brownlow. As he says himself he has sacrificed his individual game to find something that is better for the team. He still does a few flashy things but he's not as in the umpires immediate area enough as he was in 2003,being in the ruck all the time.

It is a hard thing for umpires to do as they get a completely different view of things being at ground level and concentrating on their own game as well. They do tend to go for the players that stick in their memory and like all humans they have a different perspective. Adam doesn't backchat much so he would be in their good books.

Kerr's probably the best value, surprised he isn't the fav.

Can't believe the odds on Brown, they've forgotten about all those crap games he played at the start of the year.

The shorter his odds get the happier I am that I got him pre-season at $81!!

I always tought that was a ridiculous price for a former winner back to his best.

But in the meantime I may have missed the best waves of the year.

All solid bets. Get on Jude those odds are just too good to pass up. You got in just a bit late on Goodes but still good odds in any case as he is on fire this year. Both will do well and if they get up you have a nice win fall coming your way.

I have no idea why Scottie West hasn't won the Brownlow yet. Year in year out he pulls out more than a number of 30+ disposals in very dominant performances..

My personal theory is that you have to have the capacity to turn a game, completely influence your zone, ie midfield, backline forward line...whatever. On top of that you have to assist or score goals.

This is why Westie and Whiskers have never quite tipped the scales all the way.

Having said that, I miss the player that Buddah was. Great to watch at his peak!

Based on his form of late I wouldn't be getting to excited. Needs to lift and be more consistent. Accountability is his downfall.

Even though you are being a bit of a troll with possibly extreme views, the point about accountability is not an unreasonable one. It's been pointed out here by a few people that Goodes is able to get so much of the ball because he runs around loose. Rarely accountable for an opposition player. However, that will be pretty much irrelevant when it comes to the Brownlow.

Yes, but what is more important? Personal glory or team success. I still maintain that we will be a better side if he played defensively as well as offensively. He's great in full flight, but so is his opponent when he has the ball.
