    Scotty Stevens doing well

for the Crows, been in their best the last few weeks, no mean feat for that side.

Granted his probably been playing the easiest gig in football, a sweeper across half back, but looks like he might get Riewoldt this weekend.

    Good luck to him.

Yep. Well done on Scotty for resurecting his career. I believe we got the pick which landed us Tim Schmidt when we traded him.

How great is it tonight to see him doing so well against the Saints. They have been giving us @@@@ all week on Saintsational about what bad sports we are and how good they are and this is the start of their season. It is sooooooo good to see Adelaide carving them up even with McLeod on one foot.

And Adelaide are showing how pathetic we were last week.

I don't care. I like Adelaide(the team) and I hate any Melbourne based team and I especially hate the Saints at the moment as I work in Darrel Baldock country so I have had a hard time of it this week.

Definitely. But it's not like StKilda was playing under different conditions to us last week.

But you know the old saying, that goes along the lines of, "in wet weather the more skilled footballers are brought down to the level of the less skilled footballers." That was evident last week. We were brought down to the skill level of St Kilda, and we couldn't adapt to that for three qrtrs.

                      ex Swan Scott Stevens

One player who made a very solid contribution in the Crows v Saints game tonight was ex Swan Scott Stevens. He played at CHB a position a few posters including myself had suggested would be Stevens' best position if he was to stay a Swan. He was traded to Adelaide and until this season has been in and out of the Crows as he was at the Swans. I felt at the time of his trading that the Swans should have perserved a little longer with him . It is nice to see Stevens finally make his mark in the AFL .

I'm convinced we would've kicked their butts last week if it had been dry - and I acknowledge I have no foundation whatsoever for that statement. I just think we woulda...

I think we probably would have too. However, it is a winter game and we need to switch on in wet games.

Our ability to remain focussed this year remains a bit of a concern.

Also, although I think we have improved, I wonder whether Adelaide may have improved more.

He always showed signs of talent. May be a late bloomer. Or he may just be having a purple patch that may not last.

                            1. Wet and dry, schmet and dry. The Saints played very well last week, and played appallingly last night (albeit against a team who were a step up from the Swans). They won't challenge for the flag until they can produce last Sat night's intensity week-in, week-out. Which on the first half of 2006's showing, they can't.

                            2. There is no greater tribute to Neil Craig's coaching than the fact that Scott Stevens has now turned into a league footballer (at least temporarily). I found myself thinking at the start of the year, 'How can he still be on an AFL list?' It was a bit like discovering that some team was still hoping that Ricky Mott would be the next big thing in the ruck.

No doubt they are the outstanding team in 2006 & they've stepped up again from where they were last year - but they needed too. Their finals footy was very disappointing after a quality H&A run. But they are the team that reminds me most of the Swans - they have a very solid game plan, they are very disciplined, excellent fundamentals, a level-headed coach, good mix of young & old. Perhaps where they are ahead of us is a touch more class in the midfield but we'd argue we have more class up front. They also have demonstrated their depth this year where we (thank goodness) have yet to be tested on that front.

They are susceptible to the "surprise" game plan (a la Tigers) but otherwise look very well equipped to go further in 2006. A Swans-Crows GF (as predicted by Richard Hinds in the SMH this weekend) would be a classic tough encounter I suspect.
