The AFL shows its stupidity yet again

They've fined Essendon $20,000 for wearing yellow armbands in support of Rama and his cancer battle. Essendon requested they be able to wear them and were knocked back, but did it anyway (good on them) and now the AFL are showing just how petty they are when they want to be.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

I was amazed yesterday when the commentators said that the AFL had forbidden them to wear them. I agree with you Mike, its completely petty and uncalled for.

I don't see why any club should be banned from wearing any adornment on its arms so long as they do not interfere with play and are not dangerous to other players. Given that the wearing of black armbands is common and clearly permitted, what on earth difference does it make that they were yellow.

Pull your head in Andy D. This is pathetic.

I urge Essendon to stick their collective fingers up with a big fat **** you to the AFL and refuse to pay.

They need to fight this as opposed to the clash jumpers issue, which should not be an issue or an argument (in favour of a clash).

The AFL have gone way too far this time. Demetriou is so petty about so many things. It's about time he started to look at what is best for the league, not for himself.

They shouldn't have asked if they weren't going to listen to the answer.

It was a ridiculous decision in the first place by the AFL, but if it was rejected and Essendon went ahead knowing they would be fined then so be it.

And of course now the irony is that the AFL will donate the $20,000 to cancer research.

The AFL probably won't give credit to Essendon either...

Do you get the feeling that this was a quick knee jerk reaction by the AFL to the back lash from the public?
