    Did Davis duck his head?

Evidently this is what Buckley's spray/sledge was about. The incident attracted a lot of talkback callers tonight with consensus being that he didn't duck his head but Buckley obviously sledged him to get into his head space. Many of the callers seemed unhappy with Nathan suggesting that as a role model to young, aspiring footballers he shouldn't be directing those sort of tirades at other players. Some even were of the belief, perhaps unfairly, that he lacked hardness himself. Tony Shaw and Gary Lyon didn't think he ducked his head but the Buckley spray certainly seemed to affect him as he didn't have a great impact on the match. People actually at the game might be better qualified to comment. Also met a bloke with connections to a Sydney player who seems to think he's had a falling out with Hall and that he's not popular with his teammates which may have something to do with the fact that he's often 'ignored' on leads. Not sure of the veracity of it though even though the source is not usually one to exaggerate.

I don't think he ducked his head, he just dropped the mark- Hall and Richards also dropped simple marks straight in front of their faces.

If he is being ignored on leads because he has fallen out of favour with the players, then that is childish on the part of his teammates; as profiessional athletes they really should be above that sort of behaviour, and the coaching staff should be addressing it (although Roos has probably left it with the naughty boys to discipline the naughty boys). Akermanis isn't supposed to be the most popular person at Brisbane but he is still given the ball by his teammates.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

      Two facts (or opinions really) and they are;

Nick Davis is a flash in the pan, and Nathan Buckley is a tool.

Not sure about a player falling out with Davis, but he is hot and cold with his form. Contributed significantly in last year's finals, but will never be a consistent dynamo.

Nathan "show me the money" Buckley deserted Brisbane Bears to play at a "successful club". It is pure poetic justice that the tool has had to watch the Brisbane Lions win 3 flags in a row - two of them against his "successful club". I hope and pray that he never experiences the joy of winning a premiership.

And the relevance of either of your opinions to the thread = 0.

Davis is an excellent player of extraordinary ability whom Roos does not coach particularly well. Buckley has done enough to be respected as a champion and deserves to be judged on his record as a footballer, not a dumb comment about Brisbane and finals football.

I did not think that Davis ducked his head. I did not think that the Pies ''got inside his head". I just thought that he had an ordinary game, like the rest of them. You will only get the best from Davis when the team can get the ball to him.

What absolute crud. So it's Roos' fault that Davis is inconsistent. Utter rubbish. As for your mate Buckley, he is a selfish turd. Did Davis duck his head? Probably not, but he tends to "drop his head when things don't go his way.

He actually said that Roos doesn't coach Davis particuarly well, I think that is a reasonable observation.

              He didn't duck his head.

Sheedy didn't think so. In fact he said there was a lack of talking and Goodes should have been saying yours or something similar.

Nick Davis is a volatile character who the club needs to nuture. Always has been, always will be. Facts are we, they, need him firing to be a flag threat.

Nathan Buckley has the morals of a pole cat. Collingwood is the ideal place for the deserter, and I will not let a kind word be said about him.

I don't think he ducked his head & I thought Buckley's response pretty churlish. You wouldn't see Hird or even Voss carry on like this without reason & if Buckley considers himself one of the elder statesmen of the AFL it's not particularly appropriate.

It was delightfully ironic tho when Buckley himself dropped a sitter in almost the same spot a quarter later - an irony not shared by the Magpoe supporters around me when I roared derision in a most unstatesmanlike manner.

A more unfortunate & game-turning moment came in the 3rd quarter as described by Tim Lane:

"The moment to illustrate the shift in both the game and Sydney's fortunes came in the middle of the term. The Swans were attacking and the ball came loose. Brett Kirk looked like running onto it. Coming the other way, though, hard and uncompromising, was Simon Prestigiacomo. Kirk, of all people, hesitated, and the Collingwood man barged through, took the footy, and thumped it clear.

As much as games can be won and lost in a symbolic moment, this one might have been right then. Sydney's bravest had, if only for a fleeting moment, blinked. It was Collingwood that had the unwavering gleam in its collective eye. The Magpies were never threatened again."

[apologies if this is linked elsewhere]

What he doesn't mention is that Goodes was coming the other way & that Kirk almost certainly pulled up because he thought it was Goodes' ball - but he is right that normally Kirk wouldn't think twice and that it was a critical juncture of the game.

There was a slight loss of concentration (caused by footsteps?) but it's all part of the gameplan this year.

He didn't duck his head. Besides who is "sheepdog" Buckley to queerie courage when he stands next to packs imploring others to get it out to him in the clear.
