Time to come honest on injuries..

It's time to come honest on the "niggling" injuries we've been carrying. Crouchy, Hally have been carrying, with the only certainty being Benny out..

Champion though he is, Crouchy should have been honest about his carrying injury, as he had less impact on the last few games than he normally would with tackles and the kind of run that he generates from half-back is being severely missed..

I understand the need to "hide" the injuries a day before and the like, but we really can't afford to carry unfit players into important games any more.. the unpredictability of it all and the need for extra time to heal would just shoot ourselves in the foot.

I don't think we should carry too many injured players ever. Our game plan requires a really high level of fitness to pull off.

Problem is we've got a soft media. Every mid-week newspaper article is exactly the same - interview player who says "this week is a real challenge and we have to bring our best game to be a chance". I don't even bother reading those articles anymore. All Sydney media reporting on the Swans is spoon-fed PR from the club. No-one pressures them into being honest or digs to see what is really happening behind the scenes. Everything is very carefully orchestrated. If you believe the reporting then the Swans is a clinically sterile funpark where no-one upsets one and another, no-one argues with each other or has differences of opinion.

Half the fun of being involved with a footy club is the gossip and info that transverses it's members and supporters. Who is carrying injuries, inter club relationships, feuds, rivalries etc. We are denied that fun and kept at arms length by an arrogant club who are so paranoid about upsetting a supposedly fickle Sydney market that they jump on anything even remotely resembling variation from the "company line".

Who takes the official Swans injury list seriously? No-one. And we should be able to.

How can you have an emotional input into a club when they refuse to give us even the most basic of facts - who is injured?

I played at 3 clubs over a total of 9 years as a senior player and every club had warts. Every club had power struggles, innuendo, internal rivalries, bickering etc. Swans would be no different.

That's where I see the Swans supporters as being perceived as different and superficial compared to other clubs. We don't demand the warts and all (the truth) approach from our club or our media and in return we get spoon fed rubbish. Sort of like how our government gets away with running the country.

Spot on. In another post some time back, I (and others) made this same point. Having Paul Roos as our coach has led to our success, but the same levers he has used to get the most out of his people have resulted in a level of 'control' that makes for a 'Stepford Wives' rather than 'Footballer's wives' kind of existence.

Pass me the prozac someone, time to catch some football muzac...

All of us want the team to field its best possible line up each week, allowing for the physical fitness of the players involved.

But aside from that, what purpose would publishing a list of various players' niggles serve, other than to confirm any suspicions the opposition has as to how individuals are fairing and giving them clues as to how to play against them?

As for knowing stuff about internal shenanigans, again, who honestly cares? They are a TV soap opera, they're a professional sports club whose only obligation is to be as competitive as they can consistently and over the long term.

Based on this post Liz I suspect you are a non de plume planted on this site by the club.

Hmmm could we have a poll about who we think Liz really is???

For my thinking she is far too rational and literate to be a mole.
