    Aboriginal Players

Does anyone know where I can find a listing of all the aboriginal players in the AFL.

There doesn?t seem to be a great deal around the net on this topic, you could try this site http://www.vibe.com.au/index.htm select ?Celebrety Vibe? from the left hand menu, then in the ?Browse sportspeople? dropdown menu select AFL. There are 33 current aboriginal AFL players listed there, with a short article about each one.

There is also this fan site http://www.froggy.com.au/fr021453/afl.htm which is still under construction, it shows pictures of indigenous players at each club.

For more specific information try an enquiry in a decent search engine like http://www.google.com/ .

I tried to get one from the AFL via the Players Association and their stats man and they sent me a list twice but it was way out of date both times- completely useless- so I gave up trying.

It would take you all of ten minutes to go to the players list of each site and look at the photos (if you have cable, that is)

You don't have to go to Sydney, so that's one down.

Bateman and Williams at Hawthorn. That's two down.

A bit of knowledge is needed as well though. For example, just by looking at photos you wouldn't necessarily pick all the players who consider themselves to be aborginal - the Materas, for example, possibly Wanganeen or Headland etc

Absolutely correct Lizz...what the AFL should do is from the very start via website player profiles add their backgrounds. It's entirely up to the players should they want to reveal it but most would. They often ask where a player is born but that doesn't tell you their racial/cultural background. Celebrate and embrace diversity I say.
