    another port star falls down

Port Adelaide's ' Could of been hero' Daniel Motlop will miss this week's game against the swans & the rest of the season because of a shoulder injury, his undergoing treatment for it in the next week or so.

wow we are really getting lucky with opposition sides getting injuries.

Hurt his shoulder from the weight of the world from that missed kick.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Yep, it's a problem between the left and right shoulder. Led to him missing the kick on Sunday.

Is it poor form to comment that I'd rather Motlop was playing?

He's hardly set the world on fire this year. In terms of the smaller forwards who might cause us problems, I'll be losing far more sleep over Josh Mahoney and Brett Ebert, not to mention goal-kicking, quick mids like Burgoyne and Pearce.

But Motlop being out means it's easier to cover the other smalls. Burgoyne is a worry because of his pace but Mahoney's really an honest trier who can be easily controlled if the right match-up is chosen and his opponent sticks to his task. Pearce and Burgoyne can hurt with their pace, especially on the wide expanses of AAMI.

But they might bring someone else in who can actually play decent, committed footy.

I find it hard to understand that we are actually hoping that the opposition is weak and we should be walking all over them. Whilst I can see the good side (we win, woohoo, we get 4 points, we get to play finals etc etc), the likelihood of this happening week in, week out, is unlikely. One day you are going to meet a full strength team.

I'd rather all teams we play are at full (as selected) strength - That is the only way to measure your playing group as a team - Runaway victories when the opposition has many players out, whilst good for percentage and points, are no more than hollow victories.

And yes I know, we all want the victories to get the points, to get to the finals ... Doesn't quite mean so much when you really shouldn't be there and all you are doing is making up the numbers.

Disclaimer: Please note I am not saying that the Bloods shouldn't be there this year. I still believe we have the man-power to meet Adelaide in the Grand Final - Coz that's what I think it will be ...

                      I tend to agree.

In R21 and 22 we want the Blions and Carlton to turn up committed with their best sides and give us a good, hard contest. In R19 and 20 Melbourne and Geelong will almost certainly give us a good, hard contest no matter who they have out through injury.

That's plenty enough good, hard games leading into the finals. Right now, we'll just take the 4 points any way we can get 'em (and a bit of bonus percentage, if we can nab that too).

Agree with you, Liz, though. My recollection is that Motlop didn't hurt us in R3 (in fact, he may also have had a few chances and kicked poorly in that game) and would be unlikely to hurt us on Sat night.

The first half will tell the story. If we can monster them by half time, silence the crowd et al, should all be sweet. I don't think that they have a Weagles-style comeback in them. If it's tight (or worse) at half time, though, it's unlikely that they'll do a Freo and just let us walk all over them in the 3rd or 4th quarter.
