Sean Burgoyne - Who gets this nasty job?

This bloke is in Brownlow form. Got the balance of Barishnikov, the pace of gazelle over the park and the confidence of a prison warden with a Sherrin-Loaded Machine Gun.

    Ablett or Dempster seem obvious.

Could this be one for Goodes?

Watched him play on Sunday against the Saints and saw a distinct weakness. He pulled out of a few situations that made me think, "What the heck was that?"

Me thinks some one hard like Bevan but he's not tall enough. Dempster maybe. Malkeski is not hard enough. Kennelly maybe but that cuts down his role. Back to Dempster.

Not Goodes. Let Mark Williams worry about Goodes.

Two weeks ago against Geelong Burgoyne got something like 4 possessions. I reckon if you can keep him quiet early, there is a chance he'll drop off, unlike someone like Judd who will always find a way to work himself into the game.

Dempster is definitely an option. My question mark over him is whether he has the agility to stick with Burgoyne but I think he has the concentration and fitness. Burgoyne is also taller than many realise - much taller than his brother - and Dempster's height would be useful.

I don't think Ablett has the agility for Burgoyne and will probably get a job on a more "inside" midfielder. McVeigh may be another possibility though, and I wouldn't put it past Roos to throw the challenge to Malceski (I don't agree that Malceski lacks the necessary "hardness"), though personally I'd prefer Malceski to have the licence to create rather than negate.

Noggy and Kirky have been found infringing at stoppages, ie back to the play.

Demps has a great honesty to his game and importantly he has the height, because you're right Liz, I think Sean is about 6'2".

This leads Lade to be the lone killer. I hope LRT is doing his homework because when he goes forward, he is lethal.

The Dumpster will take him. Has the height, speed and agility to negate him, the tackling skills to wear him down and the kicking skills to be a positive influence benefit for the team.

I think our only real worry for this game is Lade. Is in super form this year, and Jolly will have a huge job on his hands to just break even.

We're fortunate that Brogan is out injured. That will restrict the amount of time that Lade can rest in the forward line because he's going to have to do the bulk of the ruckwork. Hopefully he will need to rest on the bench.

Cornes is the one that worries me the most, probably because he tore us a new one in the Round 2 game earlier this year. I know he's been injured and may not be at his best but when he gets on a role he can be unstoppable.

Yes Burgoyne is tall AND mobile but can anyone remember him taking a contested mark? I think he's a very good midfielder who just happens to have some height, so a defender to cover off his speed and agility will do fine. I would trust Bevo or McVeigh to take on that role.

Think you are pretty much on the money Liz,Malceski is a more out side creative player, and dempster a run with player.

This bloke is softer than Greg Stafford. Remember the 03 final when he ducked his head under a mark under a bit of pressure from Leo. The Graeme Hick of the AFL

For whatever official stats are worth, Sean Burgoyne 185cm, Paul Bevan 183cm. The Brooder 191cm.

Plus Burgoyne doesn't play particularly tall; he just plays fast. We want a quick negator, who we don't rely on for rebound or to push up the ground and hurt the opposition. The job is all Bevan's. With Bevan's overenthusiasm on occasion, he just needs to watch Burgoyne's back; anyone who's played for years in the same team as Wanganeen knows how to dive. Malceski the backup if Bevan fails.

If Port beat us, then the odds are that it will be because Chad Cornes has played a blinder. If he starts down back, that will be a significant tactical win for us (provided BBBH/MOL stays accountable). If he starts up forward, Craig Bolton was born to play on him.

Mathews is still out... then again, he'd probably miss his target and hit Goodes!
