    Approaching finals 2005 vs 2006

Am I the only one seeing parallels with 2005 this year ?
Our Bloods are doing OK, at least we are winning those games we should. We are there or there-about - as we were last year. The yardstick of this year's competition, Adelaide, has just had a hiccup, as did West Coast last year. Geelong is pushing, St Kilda will be the team talked about (if you can keep the Eagles and Crows out of mind, two interstaters after all) and all of a sudden it's starting to look a lot like last year. Participants may change, but I am reminded again that premierships are being won in September, not at any other stage of the season.
I am still confident we will continue good form and peak at the right time ... am I the only one?

The strong run home as we get into form is something I was commenting on a few weeks ago.

Difference is we had only one tough game in the last five last year and we have two this year. How we go in those makes all the difference to ladder position and possibly confidence.

It particularly affects us as afte rrd 17 last year we were 11-6 and 3rd on the ladder. This year we are 10-7 and 7th on the ladder.

One difference is that we haven't yet beaten anyone above us except the Dogs. That was the case last year about the 14 week mark, after which we proceeded to knock off the Eagles, Cats and Dees, and match the Crows everywhere except goal kicking accuracy.

This year we came into a similar run but lost to both the Eagles and Crows - and were made to look decidedly second rate against the Crows.

They really need to win at least one, preferably two of the Dees and Cats games coming up to get that winning habit against good teams (and of course the points).

The worrying thing is that there hasn't really been a time this year where we've put 4 quarters of footy together (Richmond earlier in the year doesn't count!) to show that we can play at 100% again. We've been up and down, up and down all year and, even now going into august, we haven't been able to completely recapture the form and confidence which we saw in 2005.

If we drop games to either or both of the Dees or Cats, we'll be going into the finals with a WWLLWW type record, and it will be tough to see where we're going to find that little bit extra that we need to win finals footy.
