    Phillips and Grundy v Spriggs.

Phillips and Grundy had 7 kicks, 1 mark and 2 tackles between them for the game. Give me a break! Give Spriggs a break! It's fun giving the youngsters a game or two but they have had a taste and they aren't quite ready for regular selection. No more passengers! Bring back Spriggs!

Disagree, Spriggs will never be up to AFL standard (or flag-winning standard), and is marking time on his contract. The other youngsters needed a berth in the seniors to reward good reserves form but also to ascertain as to where their football development is.

Not like those superstars Mathews, Bevan and Dempster.

Didn't he play earlier this year?

You could make a case for Spriggs in over Phillips, but not for Grundy. Davis will probably replace Grundy in the next week or two, saying that I would like to see Grundy remain in the team with Davis as it gives us further flexibility.

Barring any other injuries, it is Crouch for Bevan and Doyle for Richards.

Love to have Crouch back in the side and I think we need another full time ruckman come finals time so Doyle needs to be given a shot soon to see if he can fill the void come finals time.

No, he's only played five senior games with the Swans. However, in every one of them he collected more possessions than Phillips and Grundy did combined against a lacklustre Port Adelaide.

I must be thinking of the pre-season then...

The problem that holds spriggs back from AFL level is his kicking ability something that the swans gameplan relies upon. His disposal by foot under pressure adn inability to go in and get his own ball keeps him out of the side.

am pretty sure those reasons keep him in canberra

Spriggs was very good in the pre-season and, I believe, should have done enough to earn himself a spot in the seniors some time in the first few weeks (if not for the first game).
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Spriggs was AFL standard prior to the trip to the pub, in fact he was a very exciting youngster. He is only 25 now, too soon to start calling him a veteran and it is fair to think a club could get quite a few more seasons out of him. He has been listed in the best every week for the magoos and his disposal is vastly improved this year (I don't think his ability to get the ball or his willingness to put his head over it has ever been in question). I think he has done everything the club could have asked him to so far this year and should have been given a spot in the seniors, certainly before Phillips but I would also suggest probably before Schmidt too.

Bevo - 23 poss, 14 marks. Even though a lot were from him receiving the ball sideways I thought he was pretty useful.

Spriggs - Don't know. I'd like to see him given a run.

Phillips - His size is really shown up in the seniors. Dew swatted him away like a fly. Could be replaced by Spriggs, Fosdike or Davis.

Grundy - Not really comparing apples to apples. Had a quiet game against Port but this happens. 2nd game blues, deserves at least another run.

Schmidt - didn't excite but didn't suck. I'd put him in before Phillips at this stage of their development.

Dew has become 'the thing that ate Paris'. At least Phillips can run, I thought if he stood long enough Dew would eat him!

(I'm devastated, Dew was my teenage crush)
