this is getting really boring. there is more to fitness improvement than match play, as liz has tried to point out a number of times in this thread. additionally, there is more to fitness generally than aerobic capacity. strength, flexibility and durability are also aspects that contribute to fitness. also, 13 km is not extraordinary in afl and by davis' on account he was completely stuffed doing it.

that said, i think it's time he came back in and straight into the run-on team to be a main target up forward. i hope, however, that he comes into it feeling that he has to prove himself every week for the rest of this year.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

As boring as it may be, regaining full match fitness in 2 weeks is pretty hard to do on the track!

depends on what state you're coming from buckaroo. he's obviously not far off so maybe a couple of weeks of conditioning without the trials of afl might just have done the trick.

could you please acknowledge that it is a possibility?

How can I argue with a "buckaroo" call...

I just expressed my opinion that it's hard to do and I stick by that. I didn't say you or Liz were wrong. I just stated my opinion, as boring as you find that.

I reckon they should keep him on the reserves leash for another week and then let him go against Melbourne at the "G". He's got to be hurting after missing a month of football and should come out on the "G" and tear Melbourne a new one.

                  Now there's a scenario I like.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

i think there is a lot more behind the scenes things keeping him out of the team than just the fitness issue. i think its more the players arent to keen to have him in the team.

Davis will stay out. Roos will keep feeding the youngsters and the new! improved! James Hird inspired Dons will thump us at our weakest venue outside of suburban Perth. RWO will rock next week.

Who really cares who the players want in the team. We want the strongest possible team on the ground every week, that includes Nick Davis.

Is there a source for that? I thought that MOL stated in the paper that he wanted him back. I also heard that quite a few senior players were on the side lines giving encouragement during the reserves game he played at the SCG. Where are you getting your information from?

We are pretty dreadful in country WA, too. Long time since we've clocked up a win there.

While the Dons remain a danger game, I for one am glad they beat the Blions. They've been desperately close to their 2nd win for a few weeks now, and are more due for a letdown now that they've had it. Lucas has had a few 'days out' this year, but he hasn't had 2 in a row terribly often.

IMO, whether Davis plays or not is not a huge issue in whether we'll beat the Dons. Our existing forwards have to kick better; if Davis got 2.1 (which is a generous interpretation of his season average), that wouldn't significantly increase the odds that we will kick more goals than behinds. (And no, I'm not talking about Bevan-on-Schneider behinds, although there must be a joke in there somewhere.)

Unless our midfield goes horribly missing, for the Dons to have a decent chance of beating us Jimmy Hird will need to spend substantial periods of time in the middle. Which Sheeeeds may not want to risk; plus it's robbing Peter to pay Paul as they'll lack firepower up forward (esp if Lucas isn't dominating). But if Hird just camps in the forward 50 all game, we should win enough of the stoppages that Hird just won't see enough of it. Provided we can kick the ball through the big white ones occasionally! Please!

Interestingly, that is close to his season average when he kicks a goal. In games when he kicks a goal he has kicked 18.12. He failed to kick a goal in five games, kicking 0.4, including 2 behinds in the slush against StKilda.
