Sydney is paying $2.25 for a 1-39 point win. Good bet IMO.

Actually, its much much better than it used to be when it comes to drainage (centre square aside). If you think back to the Saints game and the amount of rain that came down that night, if that had been a few years earlier, there would have been puddles galore on the field itself.
The problem with the Paddington End goals is that it gets a lot of wear and tear (much like by the Paul Kelly Race) because that is where they bring equipment out onto the ground, and the opposition players nter the field from there, plus at this time of year it basically gets no sun to help it dry after rain, making the conditions very conducive to surface water collecting as in the SCG webcam shot.

The more it rains the more nervous I become about this game. I can recall a brilliant game that Hird played in the wet against us (I think it was a Friday night?), kicked 4 goals and we never got close. Mind you, Saddo was playing on him.

Did you go to Saints game i did and the ground was a disgrace that night.

The SCG trust could only do that previously because the opposing team had forfeited beforehand so it wasn't being played for ACTAFL points.

We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

What would you like from a ground when it rains probably 50mm in the space of a couple of hours? Its a huge improvement on how it compared to several years ago and yes, there was water splashing up as the players ran, but there weren't pools of water on the field. The exception is of course the centre square because the soil is completely different because of being a cricket pitch block.

Back in 1996 (that 'famous' round 22 Weagles game springs to mind) the goal squares would have been a mud heap before the opening bounce after weather like today's (not to mention the fact we've had a lot of rain over the past month or two).
The drainage now is an incredible improvement on 10 years ago.

Agree on the drainage. I went up for the GF rematch against North in '97 and it had rained heavilly until about 30 mins prior to game time (We had stopped at Gowings in the city to get raincoats). Great deep puddles all over the ground.
It's much better now.
