I beg to differ. The pressure out there tonight was immense. The Eagles midfield was relentless but there wasn't much system to their forward line. St.Kilda absorbed a lot of pressure and were close to winning near the end of the 3rd quarter but the Eagles just have one good mid-fielder after another. I'd have their 5th best Stenglein in our team any day.

The pressure was great. But I thought there were a lot of errors, not just ones under pressure, but also unforced ones.

WC's midfield is awesome, but the rest of the side, particularly the forward line, remains suspect. Despite dominating much of the game, the struggled to kick goals until the last quarter.

StKilda sorely miss Hayes, Hamill and Kosi. They will struggle to do well in September without them (and now without Maguire).

Agree with that. The commentators kept commenting on how the midfield was pretty much ignoring the rest of the team.

They will remain dangerous because their midfield is so good, but they're highly vulnerable to an injury to one of Kerr, Cousins or Judd. I realise any team will struggle with its best players out - we would without Hall or Goodes - but I'm not convinced that the Eagles could cover it by lifting in another area as well as even the Swans could without Hall, say.

From what I saw on the tv there is nothing suspected about it, lower legs are not meant to bend sideways, well not above the ankle anyway.

The game was decidedly ordinary. The ball basically bounced back from both teams' half back lines, with both forward lines verging on the pathetic. The Eagles forward line is so non-descript that at one stage they weren't even bothering to kick to their forwards at all & were just relying on their star midfielders. Down the other end Riewoldt appears to have lost all confidence in his set-shot kicking, appearing as desperate to get rid of the pill as LRT often looks.

I still think that we CAN beat both teams. Imagine what will happen if we ever get our goalkicking right!

But that means NOTHING if we do NOT beat the Dons convincingly tonight!

Agreed, the Weagles midfield just kept coming but the rest was FAQ. And the Saints looked bemused by comparison . The D Train seems ponderous when the presure is on (but he can kick straight). The Weagles conversion was awfull . When they hit 4 . 10 I thought they had been taking lessons from the Swans forward line. And they got three posters so it's not just us . It must be a new game the players are contesting amongst themselves. Most posters in the Season gets a night out with the Collingwood team.

McGuire's injury was rotten luck for him, especially as it happened in the last two minutes of a lost game. He was having a great seaon, too (No , my tongue is not in my cheek, i dont like seeing any promising player badly hurt)

His loss and the injury list you already mentioned plus the continued pressence of Grant Thomas should ensure that the Saints win over Richmond will be the high point of their season and they will slip quicly out of the finals in September.

The Eagles' midfield was just devastating - an astonishing final quarter from Cousins, Kerr and Judd. Everyone talks about the individual brilliance but the way these three combined was awesome.

And at the other end of the spectrum was how dysfunctional their forward line continues to look. It was really a case of the WCE midfielders deciding to take the goal-scoring into their own hands in the 4th qr.

The 3rd qr was so frustrating to watch with both sides' strengths (WCE midfield & Saints HB line) playing so well but both forward lines playin so poorly - Riewoldt & Gehrig had 2.6 between them at 3/4 time! How can you win a game of footy that way?

In some ways, it was hard to believe the '06 premier was out there last night but I guess WCE got within 4 pts last year & their midfield seems to be even better this time.

Agreed that the Eagles midfield were outstanding (Daniel Kerr is in superb form), however I think that we are one team who matchup well against them.

We have the defensive midfielders to negate their influence (to an extent) and have the firepower in the necesasry areas to exploit their deficiencies.

Yeah, I can't stand Maguire, but to see anyone hurt in this manner is pretty horrible.
