Have the Swans learnt how to play wet weather football?

Having seen the Swans in the wet against St Kilda, and their persistence in trying to play dry weather football in the wet, I am wondering if they have learnt their lesson.

How hard is it to kick it long and to kick it to the top of the square?

Will we see the guys farting around with short kicks like in the rain against St Kilda, or will they make an effort to play wet weather footy as they did in the last quarter of that game?

    What does everyone think?

They did all right against Port in pouring rain and even the commentators noted that they were handling the wet better than the younger Power players.
Tonight against essendon promises to be wet at worst and damp at best
we will see, but i think they may be getting into it (the wet i mean)
Hopefully we can say "Great weather for Swans"
Mr Roos knew what he was doing'
John Longmire is taking it to an art form
We dont know how lucky we are to be Swans supporters

They handled the conditions reasonably well last week but didn't play true wet weather football. There was a lot of over-use of the ball in the back half. They were 'fortunate' that they had pretty much won the game before the rains cames, and Port didn't really show an appetite for making it a real slog once it did get wet.

Essendon have a reasonable number of young players too (as do the Swans, for that matter) but the experienced bodies they do have - especially the Johnsons, McVeigh, McPhee, Solomon etc) will relish the physical pressure even more in the wet. Also, Hird's incredible skill level seems to rise to an even greater level in the wet. I'm not sure that those of our closest equivalent, in Goodes, will do the same.

I don't know. I guess we'll have to wait until tonight to find out if they can handle the weather.

Looking out the window now, it's not exactly perfect conditions for a game of football. Although now, the rain has stopped, temporarily.

Looked very comfortable in the wet tonight. We kicked 11 goals in that last half tonight, and most of them were in the rain or at least with a wet ball.

I feel a lot happier today about this. After seeing the St Kilda game I was worried that we would still play dry weather footy in the wet as we did that night.

Footy Park does provide a lot of extra space to work with compared to the SCG. That's important to consider when comparing out ww performances.
Last night doesn't really count as wet, more greasy. I'd still be concerned with the way we play when it is really wet a la the Saints, we must have a plan B.

Are you basing your opinions because we have just beaten the easy beats of the season? They are no gauge for "improved" football in any conditions. Next week will be the test, rain, hail or shine!

When you look at many of the results this year, they are not the easybeats, but no, I was not basing it just on them beating Essendon.

As I said elsewhere, I have not yet seen the game on tv, so am basing comments on comments made here and what was said on tv/radio.
