i hope we don't go for everitt

if he does come he'll be good mates with doyle on the sidelines

gardiner kicked 7 for claremont today in the WAFL - change of scenery might do him some good........

If Gardiner came to Sydney his mates would simply pass on a few "referrals" in Sin City. I would think The Cross would suit Gardy nicely.

Yeah as a forward not a ruckman.

If we were going to recuit Gardiner wouldn't we do so on the basis of "good form" playing in the "ruck" and not as a forward a position he seems to play more and more these days as injuries take their toll on him.

If reputation is accurate, I think the Cross would be quite tame for him.

yeah thats true but before he came back to the eagles he did spend a bit of time in the ruck - and if he didnt smash his car he would be helping out seaby now instead of lynch

i woulld prefer us to take a risk with him rather than everitt who is more interested in money and media committments - sure gardiner has other "things" going on as well but sydney is bloody far away than perth

I rather have a player who can play an entire match in the ruck if needs be which Everitt CAN do and yet still be intereste in money and media committments, rather than Gardiner who has "other" issue going on and stuggles to even play a third of the match in the ruck and has knee issues. Plus if you think Perth's night life is a worry, what do you think he'll do on the loose in The Cross???

For mind Gardiner has too many issues to take the risk on from personal issues to form issues to most worrying of all health issues.

If forced to pick between the two I would go Everitt everytime because a) he is better and b) he can go all day in the ruck still despite his age. I say forget the cost (contract wise) take Everitt for the two years and in Oct 2008 look our ruck stocks then and decide what to do again.

I'd rather they stick Doyle in the senior team for the next month and see what he can do.

Keep Rowe on the rookie list next year, give Shaw more time to develop (think Erikson will probably be cut) and that's a decent enough ruck division, particularly with the likes of LRT and Goodes able to pinch hit.

The prospect of getting either Everitt or Gardiner to the club next year doesn't particularly excite me.

I would love the club to go down that path, but somehow I don't think the club has Gardiner in its sights and wants Everitt to hold the fort until the likes of Shaw, Ericksen, Rowe and any possible ruckman we select in this year draft (if we good that way that is) are ready to step up to senior level, hence the interest in a two year stop gap and not a five year one who a) can't play there all the time and b) has a bad off the field record (three incidents in two years)

The club is thinking short term and how to maximise the chances of winning another flag with a significant core of the team Hall, Barry, Kirk, Crouch and O'Loughlin approaching 30.

That's pretty much how I see it too, we need a stop gap for a couple of years who can play (unfortunately the Chambers plan didn't work) in the ruck all day if need be for the couple of years until out younger ruckmen are up to the rigours of senior AFL footy. Besides, Spiders tap work around the ground could teach our young fellas a thing or two about rucking, add to that the ruck coach we have already, and there is a heap of experience and talent that the young ones can draw on.
