    Swans in the Underworld...

    Underneath the Radar...

The Swans seem to be following a well-worn path. Premiership teams that make a genuine tilt at a second title start to warm to their task about this point of the season.

They know there's only a month to go before the finals. They also know they have successfully negotiated the toughest of all Septembers -- four games in a row, three of them on the road.

The Swans will need to win three of their remaining four to be sure of remaining in the top four and retaining the double-chance, but they look certainties in two, and will start favourites against Melbourne on Saturday.

Shades of '05 in Sydney build-up

IT IS almost as though the Swans, even if sub-consciously, have been waiting for this time of year.

September beckons and that same intensity and cohesion that transformed them into a premiership outfit in 2005 has returned.

Just where the Swans are in terms of their best football will become a little clearer after their match against third-placed Melbourne on Saturday at the MCG.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

"[T]here are things that matter more and he's reading and thinking about them: heaven, reincarnation. Life and death are the only things that are truly a matter of life and death. Not football."

Don't think we'll start favourites against the Dees. They've won 8 or 9 in a row at the G and its only a week since they took apart the Dogs. They'll take some beating - but I think we can do it.

I disagree. We will start favourites considering the injury situation of both clubs, and the Dees were awful against Carlton.
Don't forget we have also won quite a few on the trot at the G (not sure exactly how many but it would be about 5) and its probably our best ground in the country (along with Telstra Stadium) right now.

Sheehan mentions Jolly and O'Keefe as two key players who are both playing very well, as was so evident on Saturday night. I was very critical of both of them just 5-6 weeks ago as they were both quite down. Its great to see them playing so well now at such a critical time of year.

I also agree with his comment about McVeigh, who is (finally) playing well enough to have earnt a regular senior position in the side.

The MCG is no more an away game for Sydney than it is for any other Melbourne team that doesnt play there on a regular (home game) basis, especially given the number of Melbourne based supporters we have. I'm also convinced that we play better on larger grounds this year.

Agree. Contrary to popular opinion, we thrive when we can move the ball quickly. We're not as effective in congested or slippery conditions.

I'm flying down to Melbourne for the game. I did it twice last year and we lost to Richmond by a point, then beat the Eagles by 4 next time I went....

Dunno if that makes us more likely to win or lose, just thought I'd throw it in there! All it probably means is that it'll be another close one!
