    RWO for sale....

.. to anyone who'll have 'er!

I make this same threat roughly the same time each year (though increasingly early) on the staff board, but never seem to have the guts to carry it through. So this year I'm going public for a change.

As you know, RWO is pretty much run by volunteers. I'd like to thank each and every one of them for their contribution, without their help, this board would have ground to a halt about 3 years ago.

I've been having less and less time to devote to RWO over the years (ahhh for the carefree days of uni again). Being admin of a site is hard work. You have to decide how you want to run it, and then run it that way as best you can, with the help of others. I barely read 80% of the posts on this board now, some sometimes because I simply do not have the time, and sometimes because I don't want to any more.

When issues need solving, whether they are technical in nature (hmph. Non-working TLM anyone?) or related to forum moderation, the mods and staff (rightly) refer it to me. Sometimes it takes me quite a while to attend to it, if I could be bothered at all.

Some (most!) days I don't even give a damn about RWO, or reading the posts, or resolving issues. This is not fair to the people who help out, and not fair to the users of this site. I have had a hectic year so far, and it is only going to get worse in terms of my calendar.

So that I don't back out and continue doing something that I don't have time and energy for (which is what has happened for the last 3 or so years), I'm going to pull the plug early - whenever it is that I get home from the game in Geelong.

I'm happy to hand the keys over to anyone game enough to take the job on. This means you get sent the bills!! (although don't worry immediately, I believe we are paid up for domain and hosting until at least the end of next year). Plus you get to take care of the ferals on here, although to be fair, many of them are quite charming, in a My God That's Horrible But So Fascinating I Can'T Look Away sort of way. Then maybe I can go back to being an ordinary poster again, or maybe taking a break altogether.

Some of you have heard this story a few times before, you'll roll your eyes and think, here we go again, he'll make the threat and then keep on running the joint just like every other year. And every year I insist that this is the year that I follow through on it.

Sunday 20th Aug. That's the day.

Thank you all - it's been largely a pleasure.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

We could always go back to the good old days of yahoo groups, which is where RWO stemmed from.

Des and co have done a great job with RWO and I implore people to put their hands up to continue the service.

As the originator of the yahoogroups list, I will not be putting my hand up, I started the yahoo list in April 1998, Des started RWO a few years later, it's now time for a generational change.

Well I for one Des hope that you do "come to your senses" and stick around. For the great part, I think this is a tremendous site and I've personally never had issues with how it is run.

For me, the sense of community that pervaded RWO during last year's final series added enormously to the overall excitement and enjoyment of that mighty win (not to mention providing me with my ticket to the GF - I love you Frog!!).

Whatever you do decide, thanks for your excellent efforts.

I run 5 websites in an unpaid capacity and well understand your position Des. You have done an outstanding job.

I hope someone will put up their hand, but it won't be me.

I would miss RWO, despite having little time for reading it these days.

Hey Des, if the top 5 posters started paying you a buck a post, would you change your mind about staying on?

Honestly, you have a social responsibility to offer counselling services to some of these posters. I mean what are they going to do with their time if the board shuts down? Get a job?

It will be interesting to follow how many of the 'lifers' step up.
