Ben Mathews to be back in 06?

Sorry to be the one to start another Benny Mathews thread, but I thought it would be interesting to kick off some discussion for what the rest of the year holds for Ben Mathews.

Roos keeps mentioning him at every opportunity giving a strong indication he would like him back in the team for the finals....

"We need to try and them get back in the side, but it's always predicated on form and fitness," he said.

Mathews is clearly not match fit and based on Crouch's program (Davo's 5 week exile is obviously an exception) Mathews will need to play at least two weeks in the reserves before being considered for senior selection.

That make an earliest posible return for round 22, or more likely the first week of finals.

This is obviously risky but one Roos feels is worth taking based on his regular musings.

When you consider we 'may' have one 7 in a row by then you would have to question the wisdom of making such a change at the business end of the season.

Don't think we'll see him back this year, unless one of the onballers gets injured.

With the game getting quicker and so many kids coming through, I reckon he's facing an uphill battle to play regular footy next year. Could well be delisted at end of 07.

Actually we haven't discussed Benny for a while.

It's hard to see him getting back in. I understand Crouch has been able to run so he at least has a base to work off of. Matthews has not and as such would need at least 3 weeks in the two's I'd reckon to gain fitness. That leaves him a chance for the last round if he starts this week in Queenbeayan.

Assuming his form had improved signficantly compared to what we have seen thus far this year though is the big question. He'd have to show a @@@@ load more than anything he has yet.

      Is going to struggle.

      Anyone seen him train???

...oops, sorry, I thought it said "See the back of Ben Mathews in 2006"
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.
