    LRT on Neitz

    The Oz

Roberts-Thomson is likely to get another big job today, lining up on Melbourne skipper David Neitz.
Another name to add to his list of big scalps. Barry's done pretty poorly against Neitz in the recent past so perhaps its a smart and bold decision.

He's our best first option - Neitz is just too big for the others.

But as always, midfield pressure is how we'll stop Neitz.

I can't quite understand why LRT wasn't given the job on Neitz. Leo was well beaten.

Yeah Ted was on Miller and LRT took the resting ruckman when he was up there. Neither LRT nor his opponents did much all game - which is a passive win for LRT! I guess they thought Leo was too small to play on them, so he got Neitz. Good coaching by Daniher?

I'm sure he spent time on Dunn as well.

The Dees only got into their forward 50, 30times. Does this mean the backline had a rest week. Certainly didn't have to work as hard as normal.

possibly, but it may also be that their very hard and well executed work denied the demon midfield of clear options forward, making them hesitate and turn it over outside 50.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

I'm glad someone raised this thanks ugg. LRT on Neitz was almost a no-brainer as far as I saw it. To keep the resting ruckmen/others goalless was fine, but Neitz was damaging, and it would have been a good workout for LRT whatever happened. I was astonished and disappointed that Leo was left on him - and what's worse, tried to out-wrestle him!
                        Der!
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Neitz, along with Gehrig, is probably the closest there is to a player playing as a traditional FF at the moment. LRT rarely plays as a FB.

All the more reason to give him the experience - especially when he's the only defender who has the body strength to match up. And after being coached by the full back of the century.

Neitz could have hurt us today if melbourne had its midfield in tact. Leo did beat him in body work a few times in the second half which was nice.
