    2007 fixtures

According to the Swans magazine our request for next year's fixtures only included 3 games at Telstra, despite the planned redevlopment work at the SCG.

Why wouldn't the club request to move at least 2 further matches given the SCG's only area for general admission will be a construction site??

Hopefully the AFL steps in given the club's short-sightedness.

Given this years results so far playing matches agaisnt WC, Adel, Coll and StK at Stadium Australia would make sense considering the other home matches prob wouldn't draw total sell outs.

Of those three are they all night matches? I'd like to see one day game, just to mix it up a bit, offer something for those that can't make it at night time.
That's the problem with modern day medicine - there's no more natural selection of the species.
No wonder there's so many Collingwood fans.

Do you know something that we don't? This (and the Parliamentary Bill to support it that was passed in June) talks of redeveloping the Doug Walters stand area. My understanding of the nature of the development (apart from putting a big carpark and fancy buildings up in the Gold Members Carpark area) is that it's essentially to put a roof on the whole Hill area so that more-or-less the entire area from O'Reilly to Churchill is undercover (with the electronic scoreboard being moved from the Hill to the Messenger stand, I think). But the published documents don't give an estimate of the start or finish times for the project, nor the amount of existing seating that will be unavailable while it occurs.

As a first step, a change to the relevant Environmental Planning Policy will have to be made, which I presume hasn't happened (because Clover and the Greens are dead against the redevelopment, and so would have told us if it had).

Given the major effect that this could have on seating at the SCG for possibly an extended period (see: the MCG redevelopment, which seemed to go forever), and flow-on effects for the number of memberships that the club could sell, I am very dubious about whether this development could start in the 2007 season. Subject to being told differently, of course. And when it does, I would expect that the Swans would move more than a few (perhaps even all?) of its home games to Telstra while it happens.

3 words hammo - BLUE COLLAR TEAM. The construction site will be great for the club's underdog image. We aren't going to jeopardise that by moving out to the shmick TS.

SimonH is correct. as a SCG member I havent seen any timeline as to when the redevelopment would start so I wouldnt go getting to ahead of yourself.

The magazine actually states that Sydney will play 'at least' 3 games at Telstra, which I'm hoping will mean that they'll be more than 3 played there in 2007. I agree that its nonsense not to play more there given the expected reduced capacity of the SCG in 2007.

It took the MCC almost 18 months to start the Northern Stand once the go ahead had been given. And that was with a deadline to host the Commonwealth Games.

You would think it would be late 2008 or even start of 2009 before they even were prepared to break ground on this.

The NSW Parliament record indicates that the start date for the re-development is expected to be February 2007; here?s a quote from the NSW Legislative Assembly Hansard, dated 7 June 2006.

The Sydney Cricket Ground is in need of refurbishment and ground improvements, including a grandstand-rebuilding program with a new hill grandstand expected to commence construction in February 2007 at the conclusion of the forthcoming Ashes and international cricket season.
