What is it about Reg Grundy and the first quarter, I think he's kicked 8 of his 9 senior goals there, and he's much less active later in the game.

Certainly looks like he is tired towards the end of the game. Even the shot he had for his fourth in the debut looked like a very tired attempt. And it went OOBOTF.Originally posted by Sanecow

Even though he's not managing to sustain an even effort for a whole game (yet) his two goals (on average) early each game are far more valuable than if he was kicking two goals in junk time each week. At least he's making a contribution when it matters.Comment

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

But do you dispute it? It's easy to laud a young player's performance when they've sat on the bench for much of a game, then are given a decent run when everyone else has run out of puff and score goals when it doesn't matter. No one else looked like kicking a goal early for us yet he managed to be in the right place at the right time twice.Originally posted by ROK Lobster

He's a way off being a complete player yet, but he has only played 5 games. At least his contributions have some value.
The last couple of weeks he's done some nice "one percenters" too - not enough to build a career on, but not to be sniffed at either. Eight or so possessions and a couple of goals a game for a tallish KPP who is the third or fourth target up forward is actually not a bad return for a player early in his career.Comment

Maybe because he's new the opposition don't pay as much attention to him early in the game.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

I agree fully, there was an instance in the Geelong game i was impressed with where he went to a marking contest close to the boundry, held of his opponant with one arm and just kind of palmed it back into play hoping someone would run on. No-one ran on of course but I got alot of enjoyment out of thatOriginally posted by liz

No Liz, I don't. I think it has considerable merit. I just got a giggle from it. I quite like Grundy - liked him in the reserves and liked him since he has been in the seniors. I have not given him a hard time at all (so far as I can recall) and think I actually posted somewhere, maybe even started a thread, where I said that I had been so impressed with him that I hoped that there was still room in the team when Davis returned. I did not see his game on Saturday so cannot comment on that. My comment was a reaction to your comment, not to his performances.Originally posted by liz
