I've cooled on this proposition with the successful return of Doyle to the seniors. As long as he remains injury free we don't really need Spider.

I've cooled on the idea since they started talking $700,000+ over 2 years

Swans "We'll take you but, the hawks will want a lot in return."

Spida "How about I play crap for 12 months, and do a few naughty things, which will reduce my player value?"

Swans "Thats a good idea, get some bad media publicity, play crap, and get a minor injury that will keep you out for the last month or so of the season"

Spida "Sweet!, So the deal is set then I get $700K for 2 years, and an unlimited supply of Bourbon. The Hawks get first two draft picks and Chambers/Mathews/Richards/Kirk and a years supply of Buddhist prayer. The other good thing about the deal is no one will know who I am in Sydney. I'm a pretty inconspicous looking guy, I won't stand out at all!!"

Swans ((( Secret Hand Shake ))) "Deny all!!"

          You forgot to add:

Spida: Oh, and by the way, I'll be needng a place to stay while I get set up.

Swans: Sure, no worries, there's plenty of room at Nick Davis' place.

Media beat up - how could he be fined for being a guest commentator the same amount that Tarrant & Johnson were fined for being involved in a pub brawl or that Brogan was fined for punching a Crows supporter?

The rest of the story is a slanted re-hash of historic events.

                      Great trade by West Coast.
                      Okay by Hawthorn.
The Swans would be crazy. West Coast would be laughing.

It's the sort of trade only Sheedy could pull off.

Same. If Doyle gets his fitness and touch back then we don't need Spida.

Unless there's any better source forthcoming, 'the rumour' was started by bored posters on BF (or equivalent) who thought to themselves, 'Okay, which 3 clubs have high-profile players on the outer? Let's manufacture a trade!'

Expect to see more rumours of a three-way trade along the lines of Akermanis to Hawthorn, Spida to Sydney, Davis to Brisbane. Etcetera.

If Sydney pay Spida $700,000 a year (or in fact, any more than half that) they would have rocks in their head. And I don't think they have rocks in their head.

And if Sydney do get Spida, even presuming that we also dump Doyle, where does that leave Shaw and in particular Ericksen? I know that Ruckmen Take Time, but to draft a guy in 2003 and keep him on the list not expecting him to play until 2009, in which year he turns 24? That's just ridiculous. I don't like the smell of the whole thing.

It would be a joke to pay $700,000 for a guy who may not last 2 seasons.

I suggest we draft Leuenberger with our first round draft pick this year. My mate in Perth said he is an absolute gun and one of the best underage ruckman to ever get drafted.

I read it that it was $700,000 for 2 years.
