This Grand Final still makes me mad...and obviously I wasn't even born....obviously. You all agree...nodding your heads.
When I was growing up Bob Chitty the dirty rotten thing was around the NTFA (Northern Tas) at Scottsdale or he had been at Scottsdale and he was lauded as this tough nut. The bloodbath was always brought up whenever he was mentioned. My following of South Melb was just beginning then as they were the same colours as City-South. I was a bit confused as I was young and I thought that Chitty had somehow hit Bobby Skilton..my first VFL hero. Grrrrrrrrr.
(Mind you at the same time I thought it awfully unfair that in the Vietnam War that North Vietnam was using gorillas and our side was killing them......impressionable times)

It's a fascinating story, though, and I believe Ian Shaw traces what happened to the participants after the match. He's an excellent historian and writer, and you can be sure it's a better work than Jim Main's piece of rubbish published earlier this year.

My pain can only be eased by a total thrashing on North Melb in a GF
I'd actually say 2005 was more robbery than 96! As much as I hate to admit it, we lost it fair and square. Doesn't mean I don't hold North responsible for taking advantage of it, but in the long run, it's old news now
Extract in OZ today was worth a read...great to see a photo of 17 YO Ron Clegg...Captain coach about 10 or 12 years later after coming back from the country I think...was still a great player in his older days (Brownlow 49)...but I hope it was a misprint at the end of the article when the "Lake Premiership" was referred to as between South & Fitzroy!!! I know Fitzroy played at St.Kilda for a while...but he should have referred to St.Kilda. Not even sure there was a "Lake Premiership" after St.Kilda left.
