I know Fitzroy played at St.Kilda for a while...but he should have referred to St.Kilda. Not even sure there was a "Lake Premiership" after St.Kilda left.
Reference to Lake Premiership was a misprint, added by someone at the paper. The book is far better researched than that slip may imply. The piece printed in the Australian was more an abstract of one section of the book, which also traces the development of the game, the history of the clubs involved, how football and footballers were affected by war, the characters involved in the '45 GF, the circumstances and context of The Bloodbath and the aftermath.

Having hit "I agree" without actually reading the text, I'm unsure as to the rules governing endorsement of products on this forum. But, declaring a close association with the book and its author, I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who can read above a fourth grade level. And, having lurked my way through a number of posts, I don't presume to include all members of RWO in this category.

Nah...we've got so many Grand Final wins to look back on, it's just one of so many. In fact, more than any other team.

          Like these ones....

          1906 - Our first
1968 - The breaking of the "drought"
1970 - Well, enough said, really
1979 - Was it in? Who cares, we still won!
1981-82 - Back to back. Stiffed that we didn't end up with 4 straight.
1987 - Revenge against the best team of the 80s
          1995 - The (almost) invincibles
I'm a Carlton Fan. Deal with it.

You think we were arrogant before, just wait until we're back on top...

So how's that great grandstand going at Princes Park? What about John Elliot mate; what a great president he was?

I know you are a Carlton fan & are born arrogant (Eagles fans beat you on that score these days though!). But you'd think that at the moment when they are doing badly they'd pull their heads in just a tad.

Anyway, benvenuti in Sydney i miei amici!

JE was a great president, and achieved a lot for Carlton, and the AFL to a certain extent. Unfortunately, he went way, way, way beyond his "use by" date.

The stand was built with AFL approval, and a guarantee that Princes Park was going to host matches for a long time, and then they dudded us by building the not-made-for-AFL Docklands.

And, hey, this IS me being modest

                    Just declaring an interest too.
I've also been lucky enough to have a preview read of the book.
As a Carlton supporter I've written a short (unbiased) review for our website but am also unsure regarding your endorsement policies so rather than post it up I'll just say it's a really good read for both Blues and Swans supporters and as Winton 3 said there is a fair bit more of the history of the clubs and the VFL in general than just the Grand Final Day in 45.
                    Good Fathers day present

                      Just got my copy.

Its signed by Ron Barassi (17410), Billy Williams and the author (Ian West).

Wasn't Billy Williams the old bloke that walked around Telstra Dome with the FLAG, before the Carlton game?

If your book has been signed by author Ian West, you'd best make some inquiries into the origins of your copy. The book was written by Ian W Shaw.

I bought a copy for my dad for Father's Day. Thought he's appreciate it given he was there.
