    Rest players ?

Melbourne and Freo play on Saturday, while we play on Sunday, so before our game we will know if top 4 is a possibility or not.
If not, should we rest some injured players like Hall, LRT, etc ?

Also, Carlton are libel to tank the last game (they can still get a after-1st-round priority pick if they dont win another game), so I honestly dont think they will try to win even if we field a sub-standard team (plus they'll be thinking of Bali instead of the ball).

    Time to work some magic?

See what I just posted in this thread . No point resting players because if we lose, we could still finish as low as 7th, so we have to make sure we win this game, even if we can't finish top 4.

OK this may sound arrogant, but if Fev gets rubbed out next week i think we have to give Hall a rest for that game. He is really struggling with his injuries and 1 game off will get him back to 100% for the finals.

Or do we jus go with the theory that...
Vogels is almost as good as an injured Hall.
Richards is almost as good as an injured LRT.
Spriggs is almost as good as an injured Kirk.

And assume that even that line up is good enough to beat Carlton.

You have to be very careful with form (not that we have a lot to play with) leading up to finals. Perhaps rest Hall if they think a week off will help (maybe it won't) but I wouldn't leave too many players out. Port flirted with form in the last few rounds of 2003!

lets be realistic, what are the chances of carlton actually winning (dont wanna get arrogant, that's is not swans like) but yeh, there mid-field lacks class, there back and forwards are only one man, fev and whtinall, having said that, is fev injured or something?

It is good to see that we dont have to rest Doyle due to injuries.
His great grab at goal (vs brisbane) was inspiring.

He should be used more in tandem with Jolly. One rucking, one at goal square from middle to end of each quarters (especially when Hall is is not firing again & losing to average experienced defenders again). Big Doyle appear to be quite injury-proof currently - falling all over but able to pick up himself fine.

Both tall should contribute to some great grab & kick for 1-2 goals each person. This can be very demoralising for opponents. Mixing it up is alway a strong powerful technique - confusing to opponents, I remember once Liz said too - I agree fully.

Other teams have consistently used the "kicking opponent out" technique - jumping from behind opponent & nudge the opponent in front with knee to the back/neck-shoulder to push the opponent out in front enough to get him out of the the ball drop trajectory. This is a legitimate as along as you have "eyes on the ball" & the timing is right (both of these rules can be readily adopted). We hardly use this technique. We should use this a few times in each game, especially now with the finals coming up. This spectaculer grab can pump up the team to greater heights in a close tussle/game.
It could mean 1-2 goal difference or push the momentum to determine the outcome of the game!

What is wrong with Hall? Is he injured? He apppears ok with the great leap & grab (vs brisbane). He appears to be underperforming lately. Does he know that this is the business end of the season? Have his tv shows distracted him?
If the treatment given to Davis is applied to hall, then he should in the twos or rested.
