Rohan Smith from the Bulldogs has called it quits, he will retire after their last game this year. He has played 298 games, so if they lose this week, he'll retire on 299 games. (only the 2nd player to do so.)

Was Percy Jones from carlton the other one, or did he play 249? I know he was just short of a milestone but can't remember which one.Comment

Dunno, it is a bit hard to listen to every thing with kids around.
The highest number of games for a retired player under 300 is 297 for Wayne Campbell.
I read that Smith might play on next year if the 'Dogs lose but retire if they win.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Yet another reason to hope the Doggies beat the Pies!
He should play for the milestone
People make light of the importance of milestones, and say that Grand finels etc are better.
That's only becaus ethey sit around and are brainwashed by coaches with team play and crap like that.
When they retire, and they don't have a flag, individual milestones are all that matter.
I'd love to see a Brownlow winner say "sure we have the GF next week, and I hope we win, but this award RULES! I am the best player in the AFL, - in your faces all other players. I'm gonna shiit stir my team mates all week about this. I won and they didn't!"The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

I don't think the prospect of another hard pre-season just to notch up an extra game to reach 300 would interest him all that much."As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Yes he is the first...
According to this article: Herald Article
I think Watson was stranded on or about 299 after the 1993 GF but played onto 1994 to get it.Comment

Can add Stephen Powell to the list - for those of you thinking "wh's he", he's the wanker who refused to shake Goodesy's hand before the start of last year's PF v the Saints.
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
