McVeigh vs Cousins (McVeigh Merged threads)

Great Job on Cousins kept him to 19 possesions, early in the last qtr cousins got some important touches but was running that hard to break the mcveigh tag with 5 minutes left he was absolutely spent, great vision of him sitting near the boundary line trying to catch his breath.
I also noticed visions of the boys all being iced up at the end of the game, everyone had ice on multiple parts of their body except Mcveigh who was doing some stretches and amazingly he looked fresh as a Dasie.

Very impressed would near be our best tagger, who knows Roosy may be just teaching him were to run by tagging and may look at letting him loose in the next couple of seasons.

The radio guys mentioned Cousin's looked spent too. Interesting seeing as we have all been told how the budgie midfield could outrun our midfield anyday by the budgie trolls...

Cousins did break away for a few minutes in the last quarter but other than that, I thought McVeigh did a great job on him.

McVeigh is one of our best runners at the club.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

In my very brief encounter with Ben Cousins at the airport last year it was apparent that he is a very focused young man and he would have wanted to win sooo much. He would be devastated. He worked soo hard last night and was fantastic in the last quarter.

BUT you have got to give the honours to McVeigh(as I'm biased). He did a fantastic job. Take a bow.

Yes, excellent game by McVeigh. Cousins nearly got them over the line, but the effort required was too much.

i think we have the better brother ! Great season this year capped off with an excellent first final. Nice to have a goal kicking midfielder to offset Jude, kirky and fozzie

                  McVeigh vs Cousins

I thought McVeigh's legs on Cousins was just amazing tonight in blanketing him out of the game until sporadic periods in 3rd and final term...

                  Absolutely amazing..!!!

McVeigh's first 3 quarters in particular were outstanding. I was worried that with Cousins having had so little impact up to 3/4 time that he would pop up in the last, which he did, but thankfully only for the early stages, but then was kept out of it again late in the game.

Shows the versatitility of McVeigh as well - played a tagging role all night, without the option of pushing forward like he has done so often this year where he inevitably pops up to kick a valuable goal.

                    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

The better McVeigh brother....the better Ablett cousin.... or is it as someone alluded to in the Richards thread a more supportive atmosphere that lets them blossom.

Interesting article yesterday on McVeigh and Malceski.

Thanks NMW, I missed that one - well worth a read. I like the thought that these blokes form friendships of that sort; good for them as individuals and good for the team. And in terms of their function on the field they complement one another handsomely.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

It is interesting that players who might be thought to be competing with each other for senior positions can become fast friends rather than rivals. A similar thing developed with Schneider and Buchanan.

Fortunately, all four have pretty much cemented their positions in the best 22 now.
