    Overseas AFL Fans

    Hi All,

Graystar mentioned the other day about using the torrent sites as a way to get copies. Found a good one for AFL matches if anyone's keen.

Alas, no West Coast v Sydney final yet - but plenty others and AFL centric TV shows.

By the way, the AFL / Telstra replay service is nothing short of absolutely appalling in every aspect. I nearly blow a head gasket full of frustration anytime I attempt to watch a game. Waste of money.

Exactly my feelings. I subscribed last year and as much as I miss watching the Swans, the buffering would drive me crazy. Even if I could just download the punily-sized video, I would - but crappy quality and size, plus constant buffering = searching for less "legal" alternatives.

If the AFL was progressive and thinking, if they had their own torrent site with FAT pipes, people would pay for it. And since they control the distribution, guarantee quality and release times - they could stick in the odd advert.

I would pay for it knowing it will be decent quality, fast and always covering swans.

They could even release games faster than the current 24 hour delay - all they need to do is buy some decent CPUs to encode quick..you could be downloading games hours after.

Of course, they will probably continue with the crap stuttering service they haven now.

EDIT: I am so anal I actually thought of all the gear they would need, would not be expensive at all. Plus they could give points to people who seed the games they download, and points goes into a raffle to fly you home from anywhere in the world to watch the grand final.....it would be awesome.

Heck, if the AFL provided something decent, I'd happily part with ?200 if it included all TV related content. They just have no idea - the $50 they ask for is rubbish. Give us a decent premium service.

Anyway, it's really Telstra at fault, however the AFL should know better and be demanding a better service. Something that supports OSX would be good too.

          Graystar!

Just found your invite in my junk filter. Thanks mate. Appreciate it.

            No worries.

I would pay 200 squids as well.

My biggest complaint is the fact they wait so long to release the matches.

I've had none of the problems you guys are talking about since I upgraded my DSL service.

I do wish I could find the other footy shows other than what I've found in the Footy Show Video Vault.

I find the AFL service more than acceptable, particularly as for some reason, I have not had to pay this year - I can access it for free!

I didn't want to mention anything about them not requiring I renew the service. I've been quite happy with "Free".

Oh crap, I never thought to try that! (So honest).

EDIT: Regarding the connection speed, I'm on 768kbps (approx) and I had very regular, annoying buffering going on. I'm also going to try Graystar's second suggestion with the torrents. One way or another I will feed my sad addiction...

I think it comes down to network topography. You being in california with two massive pipes to australia probably puts you in a decent location. UK probably hops through a few places and thus affects streaming.

This is pretty good, from the Match Replays section...

                        (Link is the 2nd quarter)

Good quality and I didn't have too much buffering this evening.

EDIT: First qtr had almost no buffering, 2nd qtr I'm getting lots. Oh well...

A couple of years ago when I was in the USA, and couldn't bear to be away from the game, I subscribed for a month, and my brother in law ran it through the wide screen tv for me, it was great reception, no problems at all. I was in Utah.
