When are we going to give the big man a run?

Maybe this would help you choose...

      from the hun:

THE AFL prospects of disgraced West Coast ruckman Michael Gardiner have taken another turn for the worse, with the 2003 All-Australian considering groin surgery as he bids to attract Melbourne clubs into a possible trade.

Our chances in 2007 will be improved by picking up either or both of these players. Certainly they would be a better option than Chambers turned out to be. We need to make hay while the sun shines.

            Everitt...

But not as our main Ruckman... Jolly is doing a fantastic job and has earnt his stripes as our main ruckman.

Everitt however could be used as a useful spoil for Doyle... No pun intended. Everitt may have been one of the best tap ruckman in the league in his time, but he's probably not at that level now. At the same time, his worth as a back-up ruckman and as a tall marking fwd can't be underestimated. He is a strong over head mark and a beautiful kick of the ball and could be quite a good mentor for Doyle.

The use of Everitt, LRT, Jolly and Doyle as tall marking fwds, tall backs and ruckmen would be handy. Throw in the athletic tall runners of Rhino and Goodesy and the Swans suddenly look very tall indeed. And very difficult to match up.

Both going to Adelaide with Clarke retiring and Biglands out for 2007?

Not to mention that as one of the best tap ruckmen in living memory perhaps Spider could share a few pointers with Jolly and Doyle. I am a bit weary of playing all three at the same time though. Something about upsetting the delicate balance between talls and shorts. Not to mention the spacewise-small 50m arcs at the SCG. How can you fit ROK, MOL, Hall and a Ruckmen in there? Tetris anyone?

But I'd still take Everitt.. for the right price.

I am leaning towards taking Gardiner, in view of getting him cheaply.

If Everitt is 5 yrs younger, I would take him. But Gardiner is 27 and Everitt is 32, it is a big difference. Also, don't forget that when Gardiner was at his best (2003), he was the favourite for Brownlow for majority of the season until he got injured. So there is no doubt he has the talent.

Roos might be the man who can re-invent Gardiner.

Certainly not Gardiner. I could tolerate Everitt for 2 years but I think we go with what we have got. We are playing in the GF aren't we?
