    Jolly v Sandilands

I sat with Darren Jollys cousin tonight watching the Melb v Freo game. We all agreed that Sandilands is a class above

Sandilands is just so friggin tall and talented, he i s my biggest worry.

If Sandilands is beating Jolly, Roos should try to get Doyle on to spend his time against Sandilands, so Jolly can return to ruck against Longmuir. Of course Connolly might not just let that happen...

It's scary, eh? My brother called from Freo and pretty much said the same thing. Bloody docker supporters ... they don't know what they're talking about!!
They have to be ready to pick up the crumbs out of the ruck. The rovers have got to get ready to fight it.
Swannies have been ok at getting the ball out. If the opposition has the ball, swans go straight into shut-down mode .... when they're following the "plan".
As long as they keep to Roosey's so-called "plan" they should win.
I don't think Freo have played at TS (?) ... if they haven't, it could be a plus for us.
      Here's hoping anyhow!
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

We struggle to get a crowd at Freo games at the SCG, let alone TS!

I cant wait to see how Doyley goes on Sandilands
If the siren sounds in Tasmania, and the umpires don't hear it, does it make a sound?

i'd love to see how goodes would go on him.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

In their whole 11 year history, they will have never witnessed anything like they will run out to on Friday night. A whole new world of mass crowds, mass hype and mass expectations.

Sandilands may well get a few more taps than Jolly, but we will see what really happpens around the ground.

            Go SWANS!!!!

The figure of Aaraon Sandilands loomed large in my dreams last night.

Here's what we know about him

              He is 258cm tall...
              He weights 183kg...

              He looks like this...

              Yum

He runs like a cheetah and has the grace of a gazelle.

              He is the danger man,
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

                Good one Legs Akimbo.

He's been one of our great improvers. He doesn't run like a cheetah or a gazelle, but he jumps higher than the opera house and is harder to stop than a sherman tank.

He was one of our two best on ground against the Demons last night.

The most interesting match-ups are going to be in our back line - Parker or McPharlin against your Bazza.

Don't worry, we have a secret weapon...Ben Mathews.

                  Here's his stats

                  He's 134cm tall
                  He weighs 38kg

                  He looks like this

                  Happy

Our Ben Mathews will head butt your Aaron Sandiland's arse.

In all seriousness. Sandilands troubles me because Jolly has been a big part of our latter season success.

Jolly has been "outgunned" on paper before and come through. Jeff White's failure last night might be scary. But he didn't have the muscle to wrestle with the big bloke last night and had no backup at all. Jolly has able support from Doyle, and they'll always be Swans close to the stoppages to assist over the top.

Also we should remember that White similarly struggled aginst Jolly's weight and strength at the MCG earleir this year even with Jamar helping through the day.

Speaking of bulk, Doyle also has the height and the weight to stand with Sandi - especially when he tires late in the game.

The key will be to close down the space Freo try to create around the stoppages. They love to setup for the big man in space and bank on his winning the contests. If we can limit this room, we can nullify and even shark from him a bit despite his inevitable dominance.

Going to be a fascinating duel.

And what would stop our midfield from roving off Sandilands' taps ? If you can't beat them, join them ...

Frankly nothing will stop Freo from winning clearances. I'm merely suggesting that Freo will have less room than Melb provided, and that we can reduce Sandi's impact (whilst accepting we won't stop it altogether).

In the first quater and a bit Melb did a very good job of closing your boys down and managed to get a lead. They simply didn't have the discipline and tanks to keep this up for four qtrs. We will.

                        cheers

I heard an interesting comparison this morning

The height difference between Sandilands and White (211cm vs 195cm), i.e. 16cm

is almost the same as the height difference between Neitz (193 cm) and Peter Bell (175cm), i.e 18 cm

Shows what a man mountain Sandilands is when he can dwarf opposition ruckmen

In Swans terms its like comparing Jolly and Ben Mathews

Jolly is 200 cm, Doyle is 203cm - a much better combination to take on Sandilands....with occasional Adam Goodes as third man up in some boundary contests

I don't see the concern. It's not llike the Swans like to cause stoppages.

The hitouts don't mean alot - it's who comes away with the ball that will count (while yes, hitouts can help make getting the clearance easier).

Bigger issue IMHO is that Freo use Sandilands as a link player through the middle of the ground and that is where we need to curb his influence.

                              I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.
