    Aker...

    Hahaha.. read this:

As for any ambitions Sydney might have had for Akermanis, they may have been dampened by talks between members of the Swans coaching panel and associates in Brisbane.

And, although he might not have been referring to Sydney, Akermanis made it clear the Swans' player-led disciplinary system was not for him in a newspaper column this week.

"One club wanted me to front the leadership group to convince them to take me," wrote Akermanis. "That's not my go. It is the coach that should make those decisions not the players."

Which is partly why a man who was never likely to be a Blood wants to go to the Dogs.

He only has three premierships and is clearly one of the giants of the game. Good on him for telling the swans to @@@@ off.

We may win back to back premierships under this system, but I have to admit that my feeling is that the Coach should be the one that makes the decision then influences the team that it is the right one. Success I guess, clearly makes me wrong, however I do worry about when Roos leaves and the next coach takes on these decisions 100%. Not going to be a smooth transition I imagine.

Unless the Swans fall apart over the next few years I would hope that the swans would attempt to employ a coach that would fit into the club rather than one that would dismantle it.

I agree with you Damien, the coach should be the leader, and it is he and the coaching panel that makes those decisions. Yes it worked for us last year (and hopefully this year) but the coach actually being the coach has worked for the other 108 seasons of the VFL/AFL.

BTW with the "leadership group" being involved in team selection, does that mean that Roos has to consult the leaders before he moves someone on the field? If so that would explain why he is so slow to respond to obvious changes when we, or a player are being beaten. It could also explain why the runner is so stuffed by the end of the game, if he has to consult all of the leaders before moving someone. :tongue in cheek:

Perhaps you should wait until our run of premierships under Roos and the current leadership system is over before making such statements.

Don't see why it really matters when I make that statement! I basically said our system works for us, I just worry about a culture where players make all the major decisions like recruiting now it seems! It's all good in successful times, but they don't always last.

(btw I like the 'current run of premierships' haha)
