Davis learns his lesson after a dip in the reserves

In particular this bit is eye-catching:

He further wounded the Bloods' ethos by publicly claiming he had been made a scapegoat for a losing team. Kirk, Barry Hall and Leo Barry were filthy. So was coach Paul Roos.

But as the weeks dragged on ? six in all ? no one fought harder than Kirk to have him reinstated.

No one in authority at Sydney will say how much work or time Kirk put in to Davis as the latter shed weight and never missed so much as a massage, but they do believe Kirk helped the penny drop.

Wonder if some on here who have been so vitriolic may want to amend their thinking a little?

Davis had better turn up to play tonight.
I'll reserve judgement on him until tomorrow morning. IMO, he's still one bad game from being traded (and that bad game had better not be tonight).

My thoughts exactly. Those slagging out Paul Roos haven't got much of a comeback either to be honest!

If that is true, and there is no reason to expect that it is not, then it is a credit to Kirk and the leadership group generally. That Kirk used the situation to help Davis and the team (and these sorts of things usually improve the self as well) then it suggests a well functioning and healthy leadership group, and augers well for the club in general. Probably the best 'good news' story to come out of the club this season. Hope they both are back to their best tonight.

One short year ago saved our bacon. How some forget. I would be amazed if he is traded. Not the worst in our team while Ben "CAN"T HIT A TARGET" Matthews is playing. Go Davo, and show the doubters and those with short memories.

Lets all take a breath and remember that their were a lot bigger passengers than Davis in that Adelaide game....including Kirk himself.
The dropping of Davis and the recall of Matthews cost us the WC game. Ok, in the end it didnt really matter, but selection policy cost us a game.

Also remember if we lose tonight, 2006 will be seen as a failure. We havent acheived anything yet.

It has been acknowledge by some in the club and to certain extent by Roos himself that the public hanging on Davis was not handled well by Roos and the club. At the time I was as @@@@@@ as anyone about Davis being dropped but I was just as @@@@@@ with the way Roos and the club handled the publicity about what was done. If they had their time again I'm sure the media would've been handled better.

I still think six weeks was too long.

While I cannot speak for Roos or the clubs opinions on what they would do in retrospect, I think it was fantastic that they dropped him, and refused to drop someone from a winning side for Davis to waltz back into the team.

As for the comments about not selecting Davis over Mr Yawn against west coast....dream on.....

Remember the thread after he got "sherminated"?? It is highly likely that Davis would have had no impact against west coast...

Interesting photo to go with the story. Davis' muscle definition is pronounced in that shot, thereby showing him in a positive light. Good.
As compared to the photos of the really good swimmer(senior moment here..can't remember the most amazing swimmer Aust has ever produced) who has gone to America. Photos of supposed flab were chosen. Bad.

The other players in the background seem to be really enjoying the dip in the briny!!!!!!! not.

Reading articles in both papers though it seems what we consider a good or bad game may not equate with Roo's views. He seems happy with Davis tackling and doing the hard stuff, he's changed his game style and according to Longmire, when he's in the team MOL and Hall function better. I think it's simplistic to look just at stats etc. Otherwise of course McVeigh and certainly Dempster would never receive credit for their roles.

Glad to hear you say that ROK. I didn't like Kirk's 'smirkiness' at the time, and I still think 6 weeks was probably too long to leave Davis out in the cold in terms of helping him regain form in the seniors, but it's a bit of a non-issue now.

I think Kirk's form has improved a bit too since that time. He was back to his old self again in the QF - while he will never have brilliant disposal, he was often in the right place at the right time against the Eagles and was generally effective in getting the ball out of the packs.

Now that's behind us, on to the prelim!!
