    Notes from last night......

    1) I thought we wee hardly done by in the area of umpiring.
Normally I try to see the big picture and give the umps the benefit of the doubt, but last night I thought we came off far worse with the 50/50 decisions.

    2) Last night set in rock solid concrete that I advocate the trade or delisting od two players.

Matthews is no big surprise. Did more to hinder than help last night.

Lately I've been watching Fosdike closely. He really is out of place in a team of great playes.
Lately I hate watching him play.

Funny how we see things differently...haven't seen the stats but IMO
    - umpiring perhaps slightly in our favour
    - Benny probably the villain with Bell at times...but did some nice things
    - Fosdike (despite some others assessment) always dicey on the kick...but a terrific link player again last night.

When we've lost a game this year, my fiance' asks whether I am upset.
I never was because it was all about making the finals.
I was very laid back, even for the West Coast final, because I knew we had another chance if we lost.

This was do or die, so i was way more on edge.

The Freo free in the goal square , Hall's whack in the jaw that resulted in a Freo free and a goal.
      They killed me

I'd rather see anyone else give a run than Fosdike though....

I thought the umpiring was ok last night...the only blantant wrong call was Vozzo's non-call on the head high tackle to Barry hall in the 3rd quarter and then pinning him for holding the ball.

Even McBurney was ok...that says something.

Barry Hall was sensational as was MOL, Buch, O'Keefe, Barry, both Bolts and really could go on. What was most pleasing was that when Freo challenged several times in the match Hall or MOL kicked some crunch goals from long range, tight angles to stem the momentum...real team lifting stuff.

I thought we played really well last night!

Speaking of the umpiring, has anyone brought up the deliberate OOB from Goodes.

Although technically he probably intended it to go that way, someone please tell me where he was actually supposed to handball it? Pretty much the worst call of the night for me.

From where i was sitting, in regards to Barry's whack on the chin, i thought the umpire was kinda blindsighted, on the wrong side of the contest, although i was livid, i guess if he didn't see it, what can he do?

Balanced by Amon's tap over the boundary that was not OOB.

I've had a problem with the DOOB rule since they started cracking down on it, most of the time it's fine but when some one is tackled near the boundary line and they are going to get done for holding the ball if they don't hand ball it out over the line(which is the only option) then they shouldn't get a free paid against them.

I was sitting directly in front of that decision...it was fair...Goodes tried to break the tackle, couldn't and handballed over the line...fair decision.

It was bewildering that Buch's didn't get pinned for holding the ball though at the other end!

Saw my first fight at a footy game last night in 10 years. Bay 138 at fulltime. Neither of the idiots fighting had Swans gear on.

I nearly had one myself when a idiot Freo supporter in his mid 40's started hassling me at 1/4 time when I was lining up for a beer.

I had been watching the tv monitor and made a comment aloud (to myself) about the free kick. That's when this pr@$# starts hassling me. "Worried Freo will win" he said. I said: It's a long way to fulltime mate.

He then went on an attack on me and my knowledge of the game.

When he said " Sydney supporters don't know the rules" I came very close to belting him in the nose except my 5yr old was at the game with me. Instead I said, mate if you want a fight, I'll accomodate you with one now. He backed off and shut up after that.

Apart from that and the very long beer lines it was a great night.

                  Unbelievable

I thought at full-time that the Swans were very controlled celebrating the win because they knew there was another week.

This is a contrast to last year. I thought that that was actually a very good sign last night.

And that's very much the opinion of the players:

It's not as exciting as last time, but everyone is pretty switched on and saying there is one to go, which is great everyone is focused on the job next week - Barry Hall

I'd enjoy it very much if Leo Barry can stop doing stupid things on the football field which lead to opposition goals.

2 goals in the first quarter came directly from Leo brain explosions.

Only sure of one - the HTB. To be fair to Leo, it was an appalling kick to him from Goodes. He should never have been put in that position because the ball should have been delivered to him on the full. He didn't have an easy option to lay the ball off to. Farmer laid a very good tackle. Leo was outplayed by Farmer in that particular piece of play but I would hardly class it as a brain explosion.
